I had to reinstall Spybot earlier, but it now runs on startup. I never selected this option during the loading process, infact I wasn’t even given that option so don’t know why it’s doing it.
Any ideas?
10 October, 2007 at 9:09 pm #290785Uninstal it and get spywareblast or something else.
I read a few things about spybot when I last had a problem that werent positive atall.
google spybot problems to read for yourself.
10 October, 2007 at 9:33 pm #290786Thanks for that Sharon, I’ll try it tomorrow though – bit tired tonight so I’m due an early night.
I have heard people at work talking about Spybot and the problems they’ve had but I’ve never had any until now. 20 minutes or so to scan before I can use the internet (everytime I log on?) Don’t think so!
10 October, 2007 at 9:47 pm #290787Uninstall… download CCleaner.. use it… then install again :D
10 October, 2007 at 10:42 pm #290788I had to reinstall Spybot as well the other week.
I think (as far as I know) that Spybot is now a “real time” spyware protector, so that’s why it’s ran at your startup John, and why it continues to run all the time your logged on, alerting you to registry changes, unauthorised changes, and stuff like that.
10 October, 2007 at 10:48 pm #290789Ah wait up. You mean it scans for Spyware on startup. Ah that’s a different story.
There should be sort sort of options screen I think somwhere allowing you to change the startup scan.
10 October, 2007 at 11:47 pm #290790There’s a really excellent little Utility called Spyware Doctor that will not only prevent / remove spies from your system but also runs in the background to protect it from browser hijackers, malware etc etc.
It is way ahead of Ad Aware or Spybot Search & Destroy.
OK it isn’t free BUT you can have it on 30 days free trial to see if you like it – then buy it if you want to. It comes from PC Tools and the link to their site is here:
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/
I can highly recommend it.
BTW – if you like it you shoulds also try Registry Mechanic, also from PC Tools – an excellent and SAFE Registry cleaner.
16 October, 2007 at 10:14 pm #290791PB, i tried spyware doctor about a year ago, and it put spyware on my pc like microsoft anti-spyware did.
ad aware and spybot dont do that.
17 October, 2007 at 12:22 am #290792I really dont think you’d have got the Spyware from these products.

I’m really surprised to hear that Emma – particularly as it is configured to identify and remove spyware. Like BM, I would guess that the ‘spyware’ came from something else.
It does have an automatic updater built in as it needs to take down new spyware definitions pretty much on a daily basis. It then compares your files against its database of known spyware – which is what makes it such a powerful tool.
Ad-Aware does this to a point but its updater is much less frequent and it also acts as a cleaner for unwanted files etc etc – in other words it is far more of a hybrid cleaner than a spyware/malware preventer/remover.
