Finally got my PC fixed so I’m running IE7 SP2, however I don’t have any sound from my speakers. The light comes on when they’re switched on and nothing has been muted so don’t know what the problem is.
Any ideas? As far as I know, my sound card was not altered in any way by the guy who fixed it, at least he never mentioned it anyway.
7 November, 2007 at 10:28 pm #292786This may ”sound” (lol) a bit obvious – but has the master sound control been muted???
Go to: START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES
When the window called “Sound & Audio Device Properties” opens up check that the box marked ”Mute” is NOT ticked.
Click on the “Advanced” button under “Device Volume” and this will open up a separate pop up window called “Volume Control”. From this window you can select the master volume controls of all the parts of your audio system and set them to your particular preference.
If you check the box called “Place volume icon in the taskbar” you will see that a little icon that looks like a little speaker will appear there.
Double clicking this is a short cut direct to the “Volume Control” window which will pop up when you do so.

Tried that PB but nothing is muted and I have my volume control set to full as well – the driver settings suggest that there’s no problem with my soundcard so it’s a bit of a mystery. If it’s not one thing it’s another.
8 November, 2007 at 12:12 am #292789This may sound stupid but its something I did when I first moved my computer………. is the jack in the right hole on the computer and are all the plugs pushed in the speakers completely?
I had mine in the wrong one, fixed that thought I was sorted, but then found the jack had worked its way loose from the base booster thingy too.

I always used to keep quiet about the wrong hole thing.
8 November, 2007 at 3:16 am #292792Try
Start- control – Sounds and audio devices properties- audioHave a look at “Sound playback”
Make sure your sound card is the “default device”
Hit “advanced” and have a look at the speaker set-up.
Try start-control-system-properties-hardware
Make sure there are no “conflicts” with the sound card.
It could be something to do with the plug and play system, or the sound card may have nudge lose, take the back off the computer and make sure its screw down.
Try simple re install the drivers for the sound card again.

My sound card is the default device and there doesn’t appear to be any conflicts. No updates are available for the driver either. I’d rahter not take the back off it, I’d have to get the guy to come back and do it so it’d be another £50.
Sharon – he set it all up when he brought it back and I’d certainly imagine that he’d do it right but I’ve had a look and everything is where it should be. One of my dad’s mates knows about these things so I’ll try and see him about it.
