Mrs. Dale’s Diary was the first post-war soap on British radio and was first broadcast on the Light Programme in January 1948 and ran unbroken until 1969.

The title character was a nice middle-class doctor’s wife, Mary, and her husband Jim who lived at Virginia Lodge in the Middlesex suburb of Parkwood Hill.

Radio comics loved to spoof the programme, using the soul-searching comment, “I’m awfully worried about Jim” as allegedly uttered by the indefatigable diarist.

It was full of little trivial goings on both in their family and with the neighbours and was the forerunner of ”The Archers” (an everyday story of country folk) which started in 1951.

It just struck me that your convo with AW was so like the sort of stuff that Mrs Dale would gabble on about for week after week. Totally trivial, absorbing to the participants and boring as hell to everybody else.

ANYWAY …… BACK TO THE US MARINES !!!!
