Actually thin… you could say the same about obesity… our hospitals are full of people with obesity related illnesses,,, you could say their illnesses are self inflicted so why should the tax payer pick up the bill? Maybe we should tax people for eating fatty foods or ban fatty foods?
The thing is where does it end? Is a person who participates in a risky sports activity entitled to have treatment on the NHS if the injure themselves playing their sport? Should they pay extra tax because they participate or should we ban the sport?
Maybe we should all just take out private health insurance and be done with it :?

Thin, there also one of the highest tax payers. If smoking was made illegal or fully banned where do you think the government would get the missing money from??
Also where would they invest taxpayers money as currently its mainly invested in tabacco companys – where do you think they get penison money from (maybe thats just Ireland, but you’d wanna check its not England before you try and stop it fully)simples all those unhealthy people who cant work would be healthy and in work not only would it reduce the benifits the tax payer funds
they would also become tax payers
not to mention the savings in the nhs
and all the cleaning up after smokers
its win win win and no smelly fag breaths either :PWhat are you shyting on about now, i smoke and work – so do lots.
yea but your young

yea i think the health insurance is a decent idea
lets face it private companies will offer a better service and our ni contributions can be reducedlets privatise the fire service too while we are at it
that will stop those ponsed up nobs riding around with their arms out the window of the fire engine

Not sure yet Eve…havn’t made my mind up if he likes or dislikes smokers/smoking
I think smoking should be banned whilst driving…not only because of selfish parents who smoke whilst kids are in the back but because it’s a distraction, just like eating (the lady who was fined for eating her apple) and texting….you need to reach for the lighter after you’ve take the ciggie out of the packet..light it up then have it between your fingers whilst driving….lessening the grip to the steering wheel etc…so yes the reasons for banning are there…………HOWEVER…..
Where does it stop?….I feel its wrong for us to be told what we can and can’t do….reaching for the chewing gum taking it out of the pack and shoving in your gob (one of my habits when I’m driving)…surely that is dangerous too…having earphones in and listening through your phone or ipod…that is dangerous…should we be told thats wrong too? There are definitly pros and cons………..Dunno
