well im a non-smoker…I have a very occassional fag if im really pi/ssed
Both mum and dad always smoked, so I’ve been around cigarette smoke all my life really. After I moved out, there were pubs of course, which were always heaving with smoke..and even at work, the smokers always hogged the entrance which meant I got a daily lungfull. Yet since the smoking ban, people cant hog the entrance at work anymore or smoke in pubs and I find myself really craving a cigarettes some times! Its weird. So after years of passive smoking I think ive become bloody addicted! Maybe this was the governments plan all along..make it so that the non-smokers cant passively smoke any more, and because were already hooked (although we didnt know it) we’ll now have to go out and buy our own!
When i mentioned this to friends they thought I was mad, I swear when I started going out more with friends and left my smokey joes cafe called home ( mum and dad where heavy smokers back then) Anyway, I craved cigarettes and started smoking at 14, I used to love the smell when my frineds smoked, but when I was constantly in it I hated it.
Yay! Whoop Whoop! Some as mad as me

Heard on the radio today that some daft tw@t wants to ban folk smoking in their cars!!!!
Will be like Canada soon Dawny and only able to smoke in and around our own homes  :roll:And sorry,,,,,,but it does p*ss me off a little when others bring up the arguments of pple speaking of others dying, and it costs the taxpayer. They may well be, but think of the taxes they also put in. Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but someone who never smoked, would never have the slightest idea, of how hard it really is to give up. And the argument of ‘well dont start in the first place’ is pathetic
Funny enough cas, I was reading about Wendy Richards the other day, poor woman is dying of Cancer. She smokes. She said she hasn’t cost the NHS a penny because of it as in her book, she has paid in enough money over the years she has smoked.
I agree with her. Every smoker pays enough money in tax on their ciggies. The government wont ban the effing things as they will lose too much revenue. So why the big speel about wanting everyone to give up? I dont get it to be honest8 October, 2008 at 8:48 am #375915Those pictures wouldn’t have made me give up (I gave up over 4 years ago now). The picture that made me give up nwas the one in my mind of my mam lying in intensive care with puemonia and COPD. I vowed that if she pulled through Id give up smoking. She did pull through and on my second attempt I gave up. I don’t believe that giving up cold turkey is the only wat, I used replacement nicotine and it worked for me, eachto their own I think. My friend once had a real go at when I gave up using patches (she went cold turkey). I asked if she’s given birth pain free, she said no, i said each to theri own, what works for one, does not work for the other.
One of the last coherent things my dad said to be before we lost him was ‘are you still off those fags’ I said yeah, but because you’re in here, I’ve been and bought some lozenges and I want the money for them when you get out’ sadly I never did get the money, but I didn’t start smoking again.
Both mu mam and dad had dodgy hearts, my dad chose to give up smoking the second he found out, my mam countiued to smoke and no matter what anyone said or what happened, she would not give up.
Good luck to anyone who wants to give up. On my last weekend of smoking I didn’t empty the ahstray once (normally I was obsessed). I can still see and smell that stinking ashtray now and it makes me want to puke. Whenever i fancied a cig I woould think of that. It worked for me and still does!

eek in all the arguments through this thread. THAT was the one that made me stub a half smoked cigarette out,and sit back and think !

I couldn’t stop thinking about that last post I did last night, I was thinking oh god! I hope Dawny doesn’t think I was having a stab at her lol, thought about getting up again, then must have fallen aleep. But you didn’t so all’s well
I tell ya, I get worse!!! it’s old age, I swear!!!!!
But yes, it is very sad about Wendy Richards, this isn’t her first round with it either, and I believe that she’s absolutely right too!! my goodness, the amount of taxes she must have paid in over the years, she’s as entitled as anyone else is for any treatment she needs for this dreadful illness.
We all know too, it takes no account of age, race, gender. There are children! who die every day of this wicked disease, not one of them done a bad thing in their lives. I don’t know but for those who preach about smoking, doing this doing that, our own fault etc etc, I wonder if the majority of them have had their lives touched by it. Iv’e had relatives, a lovely old aunt,,,,,,,died of lung cancer, she’d never smoked or drank in her life!! I had another close freind die of lung cancer, she did smoke, said well it’s a bit late now isn’t it, bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted!!,,,,,,,she continued,,,,,,,she lasted 6 months, and she lived her life to the full, she often said, she’d no regrets.
My own?,,,,,,,so far,,,,,,on 17th October I will be 6 years in remission, and counting!! Yes I do still have a cigarette!! OMG shock horror I can imagine on the faces of some :D My consultant said to me, this is probably the worst thing I could tell you, but i’m going to anyway, and you’ll do whatever you do, I can only advise  My own cancer was proven to have been nothing to do with the fact that I smoked, it had been caused through the dreaded HRT,,,,,i’d only spent 6 months on it, but the damage was done. It caused a surge of these cells which caused the cancer. Iv’e none of these cells left now in my body, it was a gruelling 6 months of chemo, but IF!! it should even dare!! to put in another appearance, I would do it all again :)
Thats partly what the funny pink little picture is on the left  Not that I suppose people forget, but to remind those that perhaps do, that it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, October. Not because i’m asking them to donate anything, although they can if they wanted to, but to be aware, and to check!!
My ex sis in law by the way, had just been diagnosed,,,,,,she doesnt drink, never smoked, but they said theyre hoping for a good outcome, she has a good prognosis, and it’s been caught early.
Please check!!! :)
8 October, 2008 at 1:33 pm #375918This breast cancer awareness month is a female thing isn’t it?
I think that this is both unfair and utterly sexist and discriminatory. Why can’t males be involved as well ….. why should 50% or so of the population be excluded solely on the grounds of sex????
In the spirit of fighting prejudice in all its forms, I approached a female this morning and asked her if I could check her breasts for any suspicious lumps.
She told me to fuck off !!!
