father tedYep..the Q series were anarchic and brilliantly hit or miss. Remember that the likes of Python and Q were not by definition actual sitcoms though.
19 October, 2008 at 11:55 am #383635still game, anything by the Comic strip squad.Steptoe and Father Ted. Im also fond of another graham Linehan show ,that is the IT crowd. and a Nod to Johhny Speight for “till death us do part” .
19 October, 2008 at 12:12 pm #383636yes the nostalgia does play a huge part in it, and all the repeats. thats how they imprint in your mind… dunno about you lot but me and certain friends spend a lot of time repeating lines from certain classics and never seem to bore.
currently Peep Show, IT crowd and of course Boosh are all excellent, are they classified as sit coms? I suppose they are, but im sure somebody somewhere has some sort of cult new title to lump them all under.
Rab is also timeless, Jamesy being my favorite character, although I used to love Rabs summing up at the end of the shows, whether he was drunk or not it was always the best bit of the show.
oh and I do like the symplicity of Benidorm! cracks me up.
19 October, 2008 at 7:54 pm #383637Operation Good Guys i dont think ever got the credit it deserved when you think that The Office was just a copy of it. Alan Partridge was great as well.
The problem with comedy is that you norm hav to offend someone and these days you just cant get away with it thats why most older programmes are better
19 October, 2008 at 8:44 pm #383638Forgot about The Young Ones until Argyll mentioned it, can’t forget Bottom either. And I also missed out The Royle Family.
19 October, 2008 at 8:48 pm #383639haha, the royal family came to me earlier, when I emptied our outside ashtray

Anthony reminds me of my teenage years ‘I have to do everything around here!’ and if I was feeling brave I might say it out loud
Have the complete Royle Family on DVD, including the tearjerker finale – I don’t cry very often so I’m glad I decided to tape it and not to watch it in the canteen at work
19 October, 2008 at 9:05 pm #383641oh that was a great episode. what a way to finish a series.
I just remembered the Brittas Empire too…. that was stupidly funny!
