Both major parties have been damaged by the expenses scandals. Parliament has been brought into disrepute. It it time for a general election to let the people give their verdict on crooked MPs?

I think many MP’s are hoping it will blow over, I somehow doubt it this time though.

We’ve moved on from the “it was all within the rules” meme to the “submitted in error” meme.

Every single troughing thief who has offered to repay money is doing so because s/he “submitted a claim in error”.

    Every single one!!!

If they can’t manage their expenses properly, why the hell do they expect us to believe they can manage the country properly?

The arrogant, thieving, b@starding, weasel-worded gits: “a plague upon all your houses” doesn’t even begin to describe it.

for chrissakes Noooo……….It’s 3 o’clock in the morning!

Maybe within the next 6 months would be good but really, have you seen the turn outs for these things ? Elections are such a minority issue these days.

Only the Screaming Apathetic Spoiled-Ballot Party would stand a chance anyway.

Whats the point in holding a general election now?…..it will still be the same old thieving sods putting in for the cushy jobs again, and the british public are bloody daft enough to vote em all back in anyway……

    :x

If there was an election now I wouldn’t have a clue who to vote for, they’re all as bad as each other, all clones of each other…..how on earth would you chose?

    #396884

    Easy… dont vote

    #396885

You could add “Non of the above” to a ballot paper and if that’s the majority vote then another election is called, but non of the above can stand again for your vote.

The thing that sadden me most about this whole sorry saga is that when an MP is caught “flipping” his/her homes so as to gain a financial advantage, they firstly refuse to apologise saying that it is all well within the allowed rules (stuff morality eh?) and then eventually, and with as much bad grace as possible – they offer to pay the money back ffs!!!…… ONLY after they’ve been caught red handed stealing our money!!!

We all know that this works with thieves doesn’t it? Sorry Mr Policeman, you caught me bang to rights – here’s the money back again and all is OK now isn’t it? Yeah ..right!!!

Take Hazel Blears as a classic example of this ‘post capture penitence’. So she’s caught bang to rights fiddling her Tax to avoid paying Capital Gains Tax (CGT) on the profit she made on the sale of a house she claimed (to HMRC) was her main home – and thus exempt from CGT. She told the Parliamentary authorities that it was her second home and thus spivved US into paying for all the bills on it…. which added to her ‘profit’.

Caught red handed with her fingers in the till – she offered to pay back the £13,300 or so to HMRC and even had the bare faced cheek to appear on camera holding up a cheque for this ‘stolen’ money.

What she DOESN’T tell us is that there are penalties for evading Tax and if you knowingly and deliberately do this the penalty is 100% of the Tax due. Unless she re-submits a tax return to put her tax situation right, HMRC can only accept her £13,300 as an advance payment of tax due in the future and she will get it back from them as an ‘overpayment’ later on.

Nice one Hazel Blears – good photo opportunity, bags of publicity …. and it won’t cost you a penny in the long run!!!

And if MP’s do it .. oh dear hang em.. however given half the chance

    http://www.conservatives.com/Campaigns/Sign_for_Change/Petition_Item.aspx

David Cameron has this afternoon launched a petition to dissolve parliament and call a general election.

This may be the first and only time you venture onto the Conservative Party Web site – but whatever your politics, if you feel it’s time for change then click on the link above and sign the petition.

We, the undersigned, believe that the best way to sort out the problems facing Britain and to restore trust in our political system is for a dissolution of Parliament and a general election so that people can pass their verdict on MPs’ behaviour at the ballot box.
