I agree Oss – they are different types of players though ; Rooney drops back into midfield to lose his markers , Shearer is more of an out and out striker .
Although I am a diehard mackem Shearer has been superb throughout his career – but shouldn’t he have gone to a decent team to win some trophies ???
YOUR JUST JEL COZ U HAVE NEVER HAD A DECENT STRIKER U HAD PHILLIPS BUT HE WAS SH1TE ALSO
AND ROONEY WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD A STRIKER AS SHEARER GOALS SPEAK LOUDER THAN A RUN AROUND A FIELD!! IF YOU DONT WANNA COMPAIR HIM TO SHEARER DONT CALL HIM A STRIKER IF U WANT TO COMPAIR HIM HEL COME SECOND EVERY TIME POOR ROONEY
On to Sunday’s match – and it’s ROONEY 2 Shearer 0
Attempts on goal MAN UTD 1,268 Newcastle 5
ROONEY 20 Shearer 0
Anyone – well perhaps blinkered Toon fans apart – can see how good Rooney is – and he will get better

Shearer as been an outstanding striker for many a year.. only time will tell if Rooney will follow or become just another Gascoigne.
13 March, 2006 at 11:50 pm #189387Shearer in his heyday was a fantastic striker and I cannot really add anymore than Pikey has already stated. He has always had a great first touch, tremendous shot and his heading ability is second to none. In my opinion the best British centre forward I have seen in the flesh or on tv clips.
Rooney is a different player and at times appears a one man team. Outstanding for his age and puts all others in the shade at Man U and is often let down by them. His display against Newcastle on Sunday should have been capped off with a hat-trick. I am hopeful that he is going to be the best player I have ever seen (including George Best) I always expect him to run out of steam each match, as I have never seen anyone cover so much ground!!!! He didn’t disappoint in the Euros so fingers crossed for June.
14 March, 2006 at 12:03 am #189388lets just hopes he keeps him self in line and dedicated to football, i heard he is writing a book? is this true.. amazing to think when you hear him speak, you would not have thought he had it in him
Shearer was a typical english centre forward, its a pitty graham taylor did’nt have the same opinion of him when he brought on alan smith instead :)
21 March, 2006 at 9:51 pm #189389In his Haydays… Shearer was one of the best strikers in the world…. sadly, these are no longer his Haydays
23 April, 2006 at 6:25 pm #189390He still been good this year with 14 goals which is better than most, so how can he still not be good Tiggy, sighs knows little.

No shearer lost out on playing for one of the best premiership teams in the country because he wanted to stay at Newcastle and win bugga all lol. Poor guy hope he doesnt regret it too much. By the speaking as a manchester person I do like him and have full respect for him. Hes a top bloke.
