Sorry but if your boss is asking a complete novice to update/set up a web site then he can’t be very professional. You don’t build a company web site on a one post crash course! The bloke is obviously not bothered about his company’s profile, or he’d get it done professionally.
hiya gooey xx
i work for a small local council hun so not corporate stuff but a website needed to give infomation, post minutes, forcoming events, councllor profiles, staff profiles, links to other services , etc ………

So the council is trying to save on budgets by doing a bodge job… tell them if they have any pride in what they do they’d get it done properly. I’ll re-iterate that you will not learn to build a corporate style web site in a couple of posts on here.
ok hun thanx for taking the time to answer , much appreciated xxx

Like all work which is beyond your skills or is too time consuming for you to do it yourself, you need to get the appropriate people onboard. As you are a manager, can you not delegate it to a junior to organise? I am sure your boss only expected you to organise this and not actually do it yourself! Delegation is one of the benefits of being a manager, so use it. Most local councils if not all have websites now and purely at random I have chosen Milton Keynes Council website as an example >>http://www.mkweb.co.uk/mkcouncil/
All this time taken dithering is only adding fuel to his claim that you are incompetent! (sorry to be so blunt) You could start by asking for a budget, or a brainstorming session, or form a committee, or delegate like I said before. You could ring up Milton Keynes Council and ask who did theirs, if you think it is suitable….just a few ideas. Remember that it’s tax payers money so spend wisely, otherwise you will have a thread dedicated to you in the Serious Subjects area.
