Alison Steadman was the “B list” celeb (as PB called her) who had the task this year of publicising the start of the culling and spreading the message about the unnecessary cruelty.
Fat friends, Abigails Party… now currently in Gavin and Stacy. Done loads of stuff, very far from B list lol

4 April, 2008 at 7:59 pm #322714Now come on Sharon…. minor “B” list celebs don’t have any international impact and their vacuous pronouncements sure wouldn’t make Media headlines around the world ….. which is what the animal rights police are looking for.
OK so maybe the occasional bored housewife in Hicksville, Essex has heard of her – but that isn’t going to raise much money in the way of donations is it?
4 April, 2008 at 8:06 pm #322715If we are going to move on to discussing the extremists who pull on peoples heartstrings with their own agenda’s then I stand firmly and say I do not support these people or the “associations” they stand for. Normally one individual getting people to run around doing their dirty work under the heading of “charity”and creaming millions off innocent people.
That is why I always say to people think carefully before you give to any Charity and if you can give to an individual instead who would benefit then do so.
But back to this, there is no monatery gain for the extremists, so I fully support the campaign to ban the culling of two week old baby seals.
4 April, 2008 at 8:26 pm #322716A lot of extremists (or single issue bigots) do their thing because they hold very strong, and uncompromising views on their chosen subject – rather than for personal monetary gain.
However, to fully achieve their aims they need loads of publicity from the Media and this usuually costs money to obtain. So the more internationally famous “A” list celebs + politicians etc etc that they can get involved, so the more money and publicity they get ….. and so the wheels turn.
Fact is that PR inspired pictures of innocent baby fluffy white seals bleeding all over pristine white snow as the are ”brutally clubbed to death” makes for some brilliant pictures and practically guarantees worldwide publicity.
This happens every year … year in and year out …. and still the Media machine falls for it every time.
4 April, 2008 at 8:41 pm #322717I dont think they are allowed to show the fluffy pictures now. Those seals are only a few days old and are apparantly not culled until they are a couple of weeks old and the fur is darker and smoother. That piece of propaganda has been removed. But it doesnt remove from the fact the seal is still a very young pup feeding from its mother who normally witnesses the kill.
4 April, 2008 at 9:44 pm #322718True … the current pictures are much less horrendous and rightly so.
but they have changed emphasis to show the lovely white fluffy seals so as to offer a counterpoint to them being culled.
Here is a good example:

Note the Mummy seal and baby seal rubbing noses together as if kissing – fair tugs yer heart strings eh? Quick, bung them a fiver while you can (and again next year … and again the year after and so on ad infinitum).
