Maybe they will if Scotland votes for independence in 3 weeks time.
Salmon-head gave his darling a real drubbing in the debate last night. Not very pleasant to watch the debating tricks, and it’s a bit too serious for debating tricks, but that’s how politics works at this level.
One reason Scots may want to vote for independence is that they can aim for a more egalitarian society – one in which care for the poor, the disabled, education for all can take precedence over letting banks rip and putting profit first.
BUT –
In France, the expulsion of ‘left-wing’ (ie Keynesian-nationalist) ministers by Pres. Holland finally underlines the failure of the social-democratic strategy – this has occurred every time it’s been tried – Blum’s Popular Front 1936, Mitterand in 1981, now Hollande.
Rethink required on the Left?? duh

26 August, 2014 at 6:09 pm #523375what i am finding the most amusing are the English accents commenting. IT is NOT and anti english vote..
its united the tories, ukip, daily mail , edl.Britain First and other right wing scum..
so thats a good thing at least.I shall be voting YES..there are a handful of us.. Dont mean i wont stand on the picket line with my English and Welsh comrades..
its a Scottish vote.. stop panicking :) your benefit cheques are safe.
27 August, 2014 at 9:15 am #523376if the Scots do vote yes, and there are likely to be more than a handful who do,
the it’s a sad day for England, if only because England would be more safely Tory. So the benefit cheques would be affected, Ruby.
I also think it would be a sad day for Scotland – in my humble English opinion. The economic consequences are not likely to be pleasant for Scots working people.
27 August, 2014 at 3:38 pm #523377hello ruby ,hope you are feeling better xx
now then
heres my question
IF Scotland gains independence on nov 15 2014
surely they would need to endure additional austerity in order to balance new govt books closing the gap imo can be achieved by increasing the basic rate of income tax to29%,thus raising vat to 28%
or they could cut public spending by 8 %
the difference could be offset by higher revenues from north sea energy sup;ies
but dwindling oil revenues and a more rapidly ageing population would put growing pressure on the public purse
so is the point of independence to equip Scotland with competitive powers they need to make the most of their vast resources?
I dunno its a tricky one innit27 August, 2014 at 8:03 pm #523378Only if you’re Scottish is it tricky… if you’re not then who gives a toss.
Sean Connery thinks independance is a good thing at least the Bahamas dwelling actor would have us believe28 August, 2014 at 5:22 am #523379it’s certainly tricky for cosy
he must have been reading The Sun upside down, his thumb in his bum while sleeping it off, to come up with those dreamed-up figures and date.
I can understand where Ruby’s coming from. I could only sympathise with the Scottish lady who told Darling that he was a hypocrite, talking of a just society while watering down the NHS mission. Labour really is a wet affair for anyone who wants to see people educated and cared for.
But she did point to Mr Bevan as her hero – a Welshman.
