When I was at school I don’t think our school trips were anything like they are today. I remember going to London to see the Tutankhamen exhibition back in the 70s.
Kids these days get a 5 day trip with their school to Los Angeles. Apparently.
25 September, 2012 at 10:57 am #510746If their parents can pay for it presumably?
I remember going to Cardiff and Bristol on day trips. I also had a 5 day school trip to Holland and a 3 day school trip to Belgium but my parents had to really scrimp and save for me to go on those. There was an annual 1 week skiing holiday but only the “rich kids” got to go on that.
Cheaper air travel has made the world a smaller place and I guess the same applies to school trips…
25 September, 2012 at 11:18 am #510747Hi Jen
I was referring to that case of the 30 year old teacher and 15 year old pupil who have run off together. It was in the news today. I just wonder what on earth was going through the teacher’s mind. The fact that they both went on the school trip to Los Angeles was mentioned.

25 September, 2012 at 11:35 am #510749I went to an all girls school. What some of the male teachers had to put up with was ridiculous.
Valentine cards, love notes, graffiti saying such and such loves Mr Whoever.
One male teacher left abruptly as a girl tried to kiss him! Another male teacher had girls knocking on his door at weekends.
Having said that, the teacher in this article really should have known better.
25 September, 2012 at 12:25 pm #510750I went to an all girls school too, the teachers in the school were also all female. Have to say I’m in favour of single sex schools for all sorts of reasons including the male female attraction thing.
In the case Terry mentioned though I am bewildered why it was the leading story on the 6 o’clock news yesterday? I do think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion.
Its true this teacher has behaved unprofessionally and Im sure he will live to regret it… however lets not forget the female is a young adult and from what I have read went with him willingly. Teachers have a position of trust but they are only human, a fifteen year old young adult is old enough to know whats right and wrong…maybe she made a bad decision going with him…. but it was her decision.
She should not have gone with him… and he should know better….. but the lead story on the News?… I dont think so.

Had to laugh Terry I just watched the BBC news and the reporter referred to this couple as an “absconsion” well if that’s a word I have never heard it before… neither has google :D
25 September, 2012 at 1:08 pm #510752Sounds like an amalgamation of absconding and abduction!
25 September, 2012 at 5:38 pm #510753Los Angeles – i wish! I go to Stansted Mountfitchet castle and poo dodge all day in my best Joules wellies and try not to get chased by the randy peacocks!
25 September, 2012 at 6:22 pm #510754I got banned from school trips for getting drunk on the skiing trip to Austria.
I believe half a pint of German lager (bought and drunk for a dare) knocked me for six and left me lying flat on my back in the snow.
The teachers tried to sober and wake me up by rubbing snow in my face.
These days that would no doubt be tantamount to child abuse. :P
