thought we were just as bad to be honest, apart from we was playing greece, who could’nt defend
greece created more chances second half, and were unlucky not to score a couple, we were lucky with 2 goals at least
It’s hard to argue with a 4-0 win on a new Manager’s 1st game though Matt.
0-0 in the second half, when England were very poor though, first half we showed good football at times ( well gerrard did) i need more convincing, but we was rooneyless i guess, and no joe cole.. i would like mclaren to drop lampard, play gerrard in a free role more often, with hargreaves playing the holding midfielder, have lennon on the right, the boy looks very good
i dont think im the only one in thinking lamps just seems to have lost it a bit? he has not been on form for a while….
a good start for the new captain last night, shame the 2nd half was so poor though
Normally I don’t argue in the sport posts cos football is probably more subjective than most things BUT
Last night England beat the European Champions 4-0 (that equlas how many goals we scored in the entire World Cup)- we had movement, Hargreaves was superb and for me should be first name on the team sheet, Gerrard was, in his right midfield role, excellent especially first half an Terry was solid and strong.
Greece showed their metal and capabilties second half but apart from 2 chances. were kept at bay- you can’t use a “it was 0-0 second half” analogy cos football is played over 90 minutes- using that analogy, Liverpool lost the 2005 Chapmions League Final 3-0!!
Excellent win- a side, without Rooney and Cole, showed balance, passion and especially the first half, a desire to attack. Excellent result and couldnt ask for more

Totally agree Slayer mate – what can you do when your 4 nil up at half time – most teams ease off
Well balanced side – defence looks solid , Gerrard was excellent on the right Hargereaves has improved beyond recognition
Lets hope we carry on and get rid of the Sven jinx – what a waste of time money and space that bloke was !!!
I always, perhaps in hindsight wrongly, gave Sven credit for the results Engalnd did achieve- 5-1 over Germany and the 1-0 win over Argentina just stand out – but I am honest enough to admit that the key games, Brazil in 2002 and Portugal in 2004 and 2006 saw the England manager lacking in conviction and focus.
Final say for me goes to my 13year old who said “I hope it’s true that Man Utd are going to sign Hargreaves”- probably the best English find over the last 10 years and a real workhorse.

i think a lot of proper footie fans are hoping he comes over…. i just wish he had been here a few seasons ago and fans who aint got access to sky etc could have seen what he does week in week out for his club. im lucky enough to work with a german woman, who supports brehman, and she keeps me updated on his performances…. a right gem she is too, not a typical german atall, and loves her club too bits and hates bayern like we all hate our “natural” enemies in footie (didnt name any cos we all support dif teams lol, and i dont want another war!!) :wink:
he is a fantastic player and if there was ever a case of underestimated, theres yer man.
