Very true slavery slayer, gerrard should’ve atleast hit the target. Had he scored, we certainly wouldn’t have lost, russia wouldn’t have been given a lifeline from an unequiped ref.
BUT, playing so defensively (albeit it worked) is not how we should play, black mark against maclaren for that.
i think he got the tactics spot on myself, he panicked though by putting crouch on, which meant putting rooney to the left which meant him being less effective, thats the only negitive thing about the game
England lost it early on, not this result… its not over yet though, russia have a tough game which is not certain..
England have qualify over 12 games not one.
Macedonia at home should have been a banker and was a dire performance- Israel away should have been 3 points and Crotia away at worst should have been a draw.
We didnt lose it in Russia, we lost it over the course of the campaign.
Some of it is Mclaren- particularly his substitutions and team selection (his continued use of Downing) and some of it is down to players who have failed to deliver for their country
Either way, it doesnt look like I’ll be holidaying next year in Austria
