The reason managers like Sam Allardyce, Harry Redknapp, and Martin O’Neil would never be offered the job is because they wanna run things THEIR way and not be suffocated by the all powerful and controling FA. Until this changes we will never have a world beating side.
23 August, 2007 at 11:03 pm #235287Who is the one Im trying to think of? I think he did a fly on the wall program at some point?
Was it the Peterborough Utd manager? whatsis name?
Im gonna have to google it to see if he is the one I mean!
23 August, 2007 at 11:03 pm #235288i think mostly in comes down too players these days would rather play for there clubs then the England National team, I know thats a big bold statment to make, but there is more passion involved in playing in the champions league or the premier, then thre is.. playing in a friendly against Germany, or even qualifying games
look at bentley, he pulled out of the under 21’s.. to be ready for blackburn for the next season, yes, thats only the under 21’s you may say, but he knew that would have a big impact on his internatioal carear when he made that choice

Bentley has blown it cos he thought he was too good for the U21’s,,,,, surely if you are picked to play for your country at any level you wear the shirt with pride? Him shirking that offer has shown not only the management but the fans what he thinks about playing for England.
His eyes are on the money playing at club level. It seems the days of dreaming of playing for your country are over.
Not for long though……… he is blinded by the Beckham and Wag thing and that aint gonna last forever.
23 August, 2007 at 11:19 pm #235290thing is, everyone playing for England also do it for personal pride

So why does Bentley think he is any different then?
23 August, 2007 at 11:22 pm #235292he was knackered, he had played a full season for blackburn.. played nearly every game, then joined the full england squad for 2 weeks, then was picked for the u21 championship
he said to himself.. whats more importent, my fitness for blackburn next season, or playing for england… he decided blackburn was more importent…

Says it all really
23 August, 2007 at 11:34 pm #235294it does, and thats my point… gerrard played with a pain killing injection last saturday against chelsea, i doubt he would do that for an england qualifier
23 August, 2007 at 11:48 pm #235295I agree there! the Gerrard example is a prime one!
lets be honest how many times have we seen mr gerrard slog his heart out for the club paying his mortgage? never stops running till the last minute and is always part of something happening! (thats coming from a blue)
yet for england? iv not seen any player do that for so long!!
i can honestly say the only one who seems to realise the honour is mr beckham!
Scholes sacked it off so has Carragher
