I wonder what people think about this case?

Three kids have been removed from their Rotherham foster parents because they were members of UKIP.

Apparently there were no issues about the care of the children, the couple are experienced foster carers who incidentally used to be members of the Labour party….. but the Labour council feel that the children who are of ethnic minority should not be placed with UKIP supporters?

Should we consider political beliefs an issue for foster carers? do their political views hinder their ability to be good carers?

I have mixed feelings on this.

On the one hand I think that all children need is to know they are safe, that their needs will be met, and to be loved.

    On the other hand…
When placing children for fostering, social services take into account the fit into the family. The children that were removed were not indigenous white British – the very kind of people that UKIP stand against being in this country, being a party that wants to end the active promotion of multiculturism. We can only assume that this is also important to the couple since they have joined UKIP and unfortunately this wasn’t known at the time that the children were placed. The couple will be allowed to foster other children in the future but presumably only white British.

Political and religious views shouldn’t matter unless they are likely to have an adverse effect on the children. Imagine being a child who is already feeling vulnerable, confused, even unloved, then finding yourself with people caring for you who don’t think that you and your parents should have been allowed into the country?

Nigel Farage, the leader of Ukip, described the actions of the council as ‘a bloody outrage’ and ‘political prejudice of the very worst kind’ and accused the council of ‘bigotry’.
He said of the incident: ‘Very upset and very angry, particularly for the couple involved, who have been fostering for many years and are very decent people, and the awful shock to them of having these children removed, not to mention the upset to the children themselves.
‘Politically, I’m afraid not surprised at all. This is typical of the kind of bigotry we get from the Labour Party and from Labour controlled councils.

‘It was the Labour government that opened the doors to uncontrolled mass immigration into this country on a scale that we have never seen in the history of the island. And then anybody who tries to discuss or debate the issue is written off as being racist.’
Labour have urged the council to mount an urgent investigation.
A Labour Party spokesman said: ‘Membership of Ukip should not block parents from adopting children. There needs to be an urgent investigation by Rotherham Borough Council into this decision.’

I’m glad the Labour Party are investigating this council decision.

The sooner we cut through the bullsh.it of political correctness and restrict the powers of people that live by this kind of thinking the better.

UKIP are a racist, homophobic and sexist “political party.”

No child should should be brought up by people who support this “party,” IMHO.

If they were racist I wouldn’t vote for them.

I wonder if that’s the whole, or even real, story.

I was once taken aside by a woman who told me that her husband had been banned from a jazz club because of his political views – he was BNP supporter. However, the person who ran the club – a black woman – told me he’d been banned for sending her personally targeted, explicitly obscene texts.

We only know what the media have told us.

So being sexist and homophobic is ok then?

They are racist so more fool you if you do vote for them.

*goes off whistling “Farage is dreaming of a white Christmas”

    It’s a never-ending argument with you, isn’t it?

I just wonder if the couple had been members of the Labour Party, Lib Dems or Conservative Party whether they’d been treated any differently by this council?

And maybe, as Wordsworth has said, there is a bit more to this story than we actually know about.

    * pulls up a chair and gets out the popcorn ready for the Panda and Terry show…don’t think this is about the fostering any longer somehow… :-

I’m not getting involved in any serious discussions about politics. Sorry. What kind of popcorn is it?
