So it looks like the end for Ronnie Biggs, very poorly in hospital with Pneumonia.
I have jsut been watching it on the news, a picture of a very sick old man was on the screen.
Guess how many prison guards are guarding him? bluddy 3!!!! just what do they think hes going to do???
28 July, 2009 at 6:20 pm #402967Well Cath it just about sums the British justice system up doesn’t it …….. :x
Just heard on the news that Jack Straw won’t pardon Ronnie because he’s shown no remorse for his crime. :?Laughable really – Yeah Ok he robbed a train but folk are getting lesser sentences for murder & they get parole.
Personally I think they should leave him to spend his remaining time with his family & send the 3 guards off to do something more productive.
The poor ole sod can’t have much more time left on this earth what with his strokes & serious Pneumonia so leave him be.
28 July, 2009 at 7:51 pm #402968I gotta disagree the media have made a celebrity almost out of Ronnie Biggs, he wasnt a Robin Hood and dont forget a man got hurt, suffered constant trauma hreadaches and neever worked again.. this was no gentle robbery. He never served his time he escaped with a fair bit of the money and lived the high life in Brazil with scant remorse for his crime. Would you release Peter Sutcliffe because he was old and dying ?
28 July, 2009 at 9:25 pm #402969ok pete , i dont very often disagree with you but fact 1:
1 louts who blinded a man on a bus just because he looked at them got 4 years!! that’ll teach them wont it.
2 a man who sexually assaulted a 9 year old girl got 3 years , but , will be put on a sex offenders list, omg another one that will teach a lesson too
3. a local man who was arrested for hundreds of child porn pics on his computor got 6 years?????
i so dont hold with the fact a man died in the great train robbery , that is so awful for his family.
I so dont hold with the fact that Ronnie Biggs has been made a celebrity.
I so dont hold with the fact that 3 PRISON OFFICERS are guarding him and that is my point!!!! its bluddy ridiculous ffs!!!!
mwahhhhh lol xxxxxx

Hmmm well here weeeeeeee go, a good old fashioned debate
I didn’t suggest for a minute that he wasn’t a crim & YES a chap did get hurt but …….
in the grand scale of things Mr Biggs is hardly a threat to society is he? Lets face it if the same crime happened today murder would probably be added to the charge sheet. What I am saying though is that Jack Straw refusing to pardon him because he’s shown no remorse is just silly when they parole murders & give ridiculously short sentences for idiots that drive cars too fast & kill innocent folk.
The justice system is supposed to be fair!
And NO Peter Sutcliffe was a murdering nutter & a danger to society so I wouldn’t be saying the same.
(steps down & returns soap box to the corner for next time)
28 July, 2009 at 10:08 pm #402972Cath I see your point of view why should Biggs be treated this way when other offenders have got off light. This is down to the change in the judicial system , files of crimes are now submitted to the CPS , who then advise the courts on the sentence. These people live in ivory towers.
Biggs has never shown any remorse for his actions on the train robbery. He used his notoriety to make money whilst in Brazil. When extradition papers were about to be signed he fathered a child so that he was exempt from being extradited. A few years ago when he had failing health he voluntary came back to this country ( flight paid for by the media) to finish serving his time and also to get free medical treatment. So now he’s achieved that, he’s ill and being looked after by us the tax payers. As for the 3 prison officers maybe they are there just to see that no one helps him on his way .28 July, 2009 at 11:08 pm #402973ok all that aside, why does it rate though that a sick and dying man, unable to move off his bed warrants 3 prison officers to guard him??????? that is more the point im trying to make !!
:D

Dunno Cath  ……..
Perhaps they are worried he’ll have it away on his toes or somebody will try bump him off. :-k29 July, 2009 at 1:55 pm #402975I agree with Sarah Pete, no, Peter Sutcliffe should never be released, however sick or infirm he becomes.
You can hardly compare him either to Ronnie Biggs, I don’t think so anyway. Although that guard on the train was hurt it was, I think, said some time ago, that they hadn’t meant to hurt him in the way they had. I’m not trying to excuse it, it doesn’t make it right but what Sutcliffe did was pre-meditated and deliberate acts of cruelty.
People now are receiving much lesser sentences for far more serious crimes. Don’t lets forget about the parents of that little boy, not just murdered but tortured. Look at the ridiculously lenient sentences they received. If anyone should be locked up for the rest of their lives it’s them! Certainly castrated/sterilised to prevent either of them bringing more children into the world to be abused, but were told that’d be against their ‘human rights’ Blair has a lot to answer for on that one!
Ronnie Biggs of course isn’t any threat to society and as for 3 prison officers guarding him, it’s laughable.
