Another fup – Beye got a touch of the ball, no penalty, no red card.

he also got a great deal of the player, denying him a goal scoring chance

Still won the ball and I thought that’s what the rule was, it’s one of those grey areas. It can be viewed as many different ways and there’s a strong arguement for both points of view.

Puts pressure on the referees as well, next time something similar happens it’ll really be under the microscope. As for video technology, in situations like that it couldn’t do any harm as the game would have stopped anyway.

it was a tackle from behind, he got the player before he got the ball, it is a grey area, i thought good decision

the thing about ref’s, they are never appluaded for making good decisions, or having good games, maybe refs should be awarded bonus’s in appriciation for having a good game

Think it depends on what angle you see it from, first look at it I thought it was the right decision. Having watched it side on, it looks like Beye got to the ball before he made contact with the player and as such it’s the wrong call. How often does a ref have a good game though? It happens, but they’re always gonna get more wrong than right because of these grey areas where it all depends on interpritation. Could be worse, you could have our officials. Some of them don’t even know the basics. John Hughes was told to leave his players’ dressing room as he was serving a touchline ban. He had every right to be there.

It makes the ‘Respect The Ref’ campaign look like a lost cause, I think of the ref as the equivalent of a line manager at work. His/her job is to keep on top of things, but if he/she gets on the wrong side of me then stuff respect. It’s human nature.
