    Did God spare him?

Whatever, his endurance and faith (in science) were living disproofs of his idea that we are just a bunch of advanced monkeys living on a small planet.”

What are ‘trying’ to say here ?

Because he did well and believed in science ( science isn’t about faith ) god spared him ?

Because he lived longer than originally expected ( don’t forget science is also evolving while he is enduring ) we can’t all descend from Monkeys ?

Many, many, people outlive there expected prognosis, I’m sorry your friend didn’t but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Some people recover from the same form of cancer another person dies from.

Are you saying God saved him because he was a genius ?

Why not save a 2 year old with a brain tumour who may well become a genius ?

Are you in fact saying that we didn’t descend from Monkeys etc and we all came from Adam ad Eve ? lol I know you aren’t , however you can’t pick and choose which parts of science you chose to believe as much as you cant pick and choose which parts of a ‘faith’ you are supposed to believe in.

Also as Rude hasn’t commented on Hawking’s appearance that I know of, by pointing out you expect him to , based on past behaviour I presume, you have yourself ridiculed him and brought the discussion from atheism and God down to someone’s appearance due to a crippling and terrible disease…….

    Have I?

I thought I was doing something else.

    *hangs head in shame

my friend didn’t look too brilliant, either. Was I demeaning her as well?

*mortified more, as I knew her. Never met Hawking, though I did meet Ellis.

If this guy wasn’t rudeboy’s hero, File photo dated 09/12/14 of Professor Stephen Hawking imagine the fun he would have on his face..the ears, the squashed-up face, the cravat, the teeth… or am I getting him confused with mags, or norfolk… or don’t they all have a go?? Don’t get me wrong. They all make me laugh sometimes with their merciless humour. I had a friend who had motor neurone disease. A lovely woman, full of character and with a beautiful smile. She died within a year or so. The last time I saw her, we just held on to each other in genuine sorrow. How did this guy last 54 years???? He was only given 2 to live. Did God spare him? Whatever, his endurance and faith (in science) were living disproofs of his idea that we are just a bunch of advanced monkeys living on a small planet.

Quite pathetic you are ridiculing the appearance of someone with a disability but then as usual you get ripped apart in any serious debate and deviate off at a tangent talking crap again.

    Read me properly, rudeboy

In case you still don’t understand, you’ll have to take my word for it. I have no intention to making fun of people such as Stephen Hawking and my dear friend for having motor neurone disease. End of.

I have expressed admiration for his courage and his intellect.

I do think that he was turned into a Doctor Who figure for young people at a time when science was becoming a religion substitute. Someone noted (was it a Wikipedia article on his life, I can’t remember) that he could fill an auditorium with young people, but that they seemed to regard him as some sort of messiah, his disembodied voice and appearance adding weight to the sense of a superhuman intelligence explaining the mysteries of the universe from afar. He was very aware of this and lapped it up – like the (cheesy?) film about his love life.

A lot of his sayings, including his remedy for AI, struck me as naive and un-thought out.

    Perhaps someone here disagrees??

I’m still waiting for someone to enlighten me about his lasting scientific legacy as opposed to his undoubted intellect and courage. I’m saying this seriously and in hope.

I’ve read you properly, you are posting cheap shots on his appearance in some kind of effort to gain credibility asking posters to sum up his extremely complex work on a JC chat board.  The only person putting up pictures of his appearance and ” scrunched up features/ teeth ” is you.

    Well, that makes no sense.

The fact that you’re not able to briefly summarise his legacy to science leads you to outrageously accuse me of making fun of his appearance. If you’ve read me properly, then there can be no other reason for pretending that I make fun of people such as Hawking and my friend with motor neurone disease.

    Jeez..typical of the jc degenerates.

I’ve looked at his work (insofar as I understand it) and don;’t see it as leaving a lasting legacy.

Please enlighten me rather than hiding behind smears about me.
