Exactly what is silly in recognizing that you “conscientiously” steer most threads that you participate in down avenues in which you are more familiar with. Constantly name drop authors and are constantly stating “I have read so and so”, “so and so said this”, as if it gives more validity and credence to your stance. I suspect on a different site, among your own peer group, you would sing a completely different tune.
If JC isn’t up to your lofty standards and you often infer it isn’t, why on earth do you spend so much time posting here.

And who could deny it? Being plucked from Ruskin to a college like Merton is no mean feat – you were recognised as a man of genuine and unusual talent, presumably by someone like Morgan.
Merton is a very interesting college as well, isn’t it Gerry? I went in to visit once. Very much overlooked because of its position tucked away well behind High Street, to my memory, with highly unusual buildings and an enviable policy with regard to employing a chef – do they still have that policy? Still, you’d know without having to google it. I only came across it by accident myself while exploring the area many years ago.
I also admire your stance against bullying and abuse, Gerry. Now this must be a characteristic of Merton men. I actually knew one Merton guy with a First (now dead – he got his First in 1956!) and he was a very kind and sensitive man. I won’t say his name because I’ll be accused of name-dropping, but the best thing about him was his hatred of the way people hurt one another, especially in his profession after about 1990.
So you stand i a proud tradition, Gerry. Standing up for people’s rights and against people hurting one another.

I notice that you’ve been involved in a torrent of personal abuse against Linda, ever since she came here. Really ugly abuse, a lot of it. That man of high quality, Morgan Bollox, has been involved too. Apparently Linda is a Mexican man who must also be driven out no matter what the personal cost.
You’ve said quite a few times that you want to see me out of this room, and you’ve certainly spared no effort. Is this why Bollox sees you as a man of high integrity, sanity and intelligence?
