Moosey..
I too have heard many expressions provided which supposedly suppose to provide comfort..
God does not provide suffering, war, plaque, hunger so forth..
People’s fault…
Yes heard God works in mysterious ways.. me too still wonders which ones?
God gives us only challenges we can handle. Still wonder that one? Had mother one hospital father another, my daughter in one and a partner in another. 4 in same time for 2 weeks. How I managed still not sure, but felt I would die…I survived..
I could go on with many sayings have heard from several faiths. All goes back to People’s belief and strengths each of us have, in which many turn to a faith in great time of need to provide comfort, support…
This I always see…
Seems your shift tuff for you, hope you get some comfort and rest soon.xxx

20 March, 2018 at 3:08 am #1090026Linda thanks I totally get what you’re saying… got the T shirt,, But don’t you think we just manage because we have to ? Its totally chaotic and manic and awful, but we mange because we HAVE to ? If we said , no I cant do this would god intervene and save the day ? If he did why do we have to go thru it ? We cope because no one else will do it for you and if you have people you love you put them first, no one else is there to do it so you just crack on… god isn’t helping at all . Sorry and g’night x

20 March, 2018 at 10:02 am #1090033@morgan‘,
I have no idea how highly educated you are but we actually know a few things about Matthew, mark, Luke and John from people who knew them and passed stories down about them. people did write things down at that time.
Does it matter who they are?
20 March, 2018 at 10:17 am #1090036Arrogance should be …
– a sin , that is.
A few people come across as arrogant here, and in real life it’s my very strong guess that they aren’t arrogant at all. They sound like quite unhappy eople who have problems relating to others.
You’ve said that I’m arrogant, and assume I’m superior because I use books to support my argument.
Sorry, but that’s me. That’s my MO. That’s how I survive, and it’s been my life. I’ve read books since I was a kid, and it hasn’t gone down well ever since I was a kid – not because I was arrogant (believe me, I was the opposite). I was always told that only lazy people read books and I needed to do proper work. I didn’t grow up in a nice middle-class or academic environment – far from it – but my reading was the way I survived, for better or for worse. It helped me against teachers and it helped me survive a lot of stuff.
In the world of books and ideas – and there is one, even in Britain – there is genuine arrogance. It’s cruel and it’s nasty, a lot of people shut up and fit in with gangs in the same way they do everywhere else. The usual thing is to look like Julius Caesar and look down on all. I hated that and them with a passion, and they knew it. But books and my reading and my ability to argue were my defence, and when it got too nasty, they were my way of coping.
I have an idea of just how tough it is for you – and it sounds bloody tough – but don’t go swinging around against people as arrogant if you have no idea of the way they actually live. It’s very different from you, and I’m out of it now, thank God, but we all have to live.
Confidence in the way I argue is not arrogance. I never assume I’m right, but I argue in the hope that I can be shown where I’m wrong. there’s a whole preparation for that in what I’ve done, just as you need years of training and preparation for the skills you use. If using books is arrogant, then guilty as charged and glad to be so. If you don’t like it, then tough – live and let live.

so you survived Linda vindicating your stance that “God doesn’t give us challenges tougher than we can handle ” but the countless people who commit society are conveniently forgotten? This is what I’m talking about with lower intellects in Christianity- they are ok so God must have spared them but others are slitting their wrists which doesn’t come into the equation. What a strange God..
20 March, 2018 at 11:40 am #1090038@morgan‘, I have no idea how highly educated you are but we actually know a few things about Matthew, mark, Luke and John from people who knew them and passed stories down about them. people did write things down at that time. Does it matter who they are?
so you are interested in these so called devout characters quoting their passages and then say ” does it matter who they are”? In that case why not quote bits of puff the magic dragon if who they are is irrelevant ?
20 March, 2018 at 12:17 pm #1090044I had a neighbour in my old property who was 28 and diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer sobbing in the back garden during the summer nights with a young kid she was destined to leave behind. She was encouraged to pray with “God not giving her more than she can handle ” .. I read her obituary last year in the paper.
Turn the news on when it covers third world areas in parts of Africa, the camera will often pan down to some poor malnourished baby with bones sticking out of its rib cage like chicken drum sticks and tell me ” God will not give anyone more than they can handle”.
All very well in the west people praying and thinking there is some “God ” looking out for them because they recovered from the death of Aunty pat .. the reality is a world of pain, suffering and misery for many with no God but we still have to listen to patronising crap suggesting otherwise because they can’t handle the true reality of our lives on this earth.
20 March, 2018 at 1:27 pm #1090045On the one hand I have Mooosey telling me I’m arrogant and constantly showing off my book-reading, and now here is this guy telling me I’m feeble-minded. I think Mooosey is just plain wrong (for many reasons, and some are given above), but is this guy not arrogant, informing us who is feeble-minded and who has BigBrains?

Yes, I am interested in these four. The differences between them are very important and acknowledged by all Christians but the Biblical literalists.
My question was to morgan – he was the one who said that he was highly-educated and that we don’t know anything about them. I was asking him why he thinks it’s important to know anything about them.
I think it’s crucial to know about them, how they wrote their gospels and when theyw rote them. I was asking Morgan why he thinks they matter.
