RIP
6 December, 2013 at 12:15 am #521232There are some who would say he was a not so great, as there are those who would say the same about Martin Luther King. They both lived in an apartheid world though in different continents
The colour of a persons skin makes no difference to the person they are and in totally different ways they are both people who we can look up to in completely different ways
Through their dignity in different changing worlds there is a lot we can learn and the world can count itself a far better place for that and them
Thank you both for teaching us so much
6 December, 2013 at 11:41 am #521233I don’t like the hype.
His suffering certainly made him a powerful symbol of racial oppression in South Africa (and the world) in the 20th century. His country is violent, corrupt and brutal, but at least it’s removed the ugly blot of apartheid, and he’s a symbol of that removal too.
I’m not sure of what lessons he has to teach us exactly, though we’re assured that he has so I guess that must be the truth. His daughter said that patience and love were his final lessons, These are good lessons, though nobody seems to have learned them yet.
So – fare thee well, Mr Mandela. There are many good and gentle men, but you seem to have been one of them.

Agreed.
He represented the best of humanity and, in his desire to create a united South Africa, an acknowledgement that we are more alike than we are different.
9 December, 2013 at 9:10 am #521235Look a bit deeper people, Mandela was a murderer and a terrorist, thousands died at his command before he became a political leader. Do you think he was imprisoned for no reason at all? Good riddance to bad blood, Martin Luther king and Malcolm X were similar, one did it legitamately and one didnt, learn your history

There are few things worse than someone telling you to know your history who obviously has no idea about history. Some may agree with you that Mandela was a terrorist (although by that definition you can probably include the french resistance and countless other organizations that were unable to access democratic methods). But if so he was a rather crappy one and Thousands did not die at his command.
And you’re absolutely right, Martin Luther King and Malcom X were similar in that all the people you mentioned, and seem to have some peculiar hatred for, happen to black. And therein lies their guilt, right?

so, Mr Dook, do you think the leaders of the German Resistance to Hitler were terrorists?
