rainy night in Georgia – Brook Benton
31 May, 2008 at 9:00 pm #139663MYSTIFY
All veils and misty
Streets of blue
Almond looks
That chill divine
Some silken moment
Goes on forever
And we’re leaving broken hearts behindMystify
Mystify me
Mystify
Mystify meI need perfection
Some twisted selection
That tangles me
To keep me aliveIn all that exists
None have your beauty
I see your face
I will surviveEternally wild with the power
To make every moment come alive
All those stars that shine upon you
Will kiss you every nightAll veils and misty
Streets of blue
Almond looks
That chill divine
Some silken moment
Goes on forever
And we’re leaving
Yeah we’re leaving broken hearts behindYou’re eternally wild with the power
To make every moment come alive
All those stars that shine upon you
And they’ll kiss you every night6 June, 2008 at 8:20 pm #139664Judgement of the Moon and Stars
You’ve got to shake your fists at lightning now
You’ve got to roar like forest fire
You’ve got to spread your light like blazes
All across the sky
They’re going to aim the hoses on you
Show ’em you won’t expire
Not till you burn up every passion
Not even when you die
Come on now
You’ve got to try
If you’re feeling contempt
Well then you tell it
If you’re tired of the silent night
Jesus well then you yell it
Condemned to wires and hammers
Strike every chord that you feel
That broken trees

7 June, 2008 at 3:13 pm #139665” And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
” So we’re drinking and we’re dancing, and the band is really happening, and the Johnny Walker wisdom running high. And my very sweet companion, she’s the Angel of Compassion, and she’s rubbing half the world against her thigh.”
” Hello it’s me. I’m not at home. If you’d like to reach me, leave me alone.”
” They carved your name into the stone and then, they put it in the ground, I run my fingers through the grooves, when no one’s around. Drink till I am sick and then I talk to myself in the dog days of the summer; then I feel you coming but I don’t know how”
” I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch, he said to me “you must not ask for so much.” And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door, she cried out to me – hey why not ask for more?”
” Got on a lucky one, came in eighteen to one, I’ve got a feeling…this year’s for me and you. So happy Christmas. I love you baby, I can see a better time, when all our dreams come true.”
” My love’s bigger than a Cadillac, I try to show you but you keep drivin’ me back.”
” My love she speaks like silence, without ideals or violence, she doesn’t have to say she’s faithful, yet she’s true, like ice, like fire. People carry roses, make promises by the hours, my love she laughs like the flowers, Valentines can’t buy her.”
” Early one morning the sun was shining, I was laying in bed, wondering if she’d changed at all, if her hair was still red.”
” But there aint no coupe de ville hiding at the bottom of a cracker jack box.”
” In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade; and he carries the reminder of every glove that laid him down and cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame….I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains…”
” Don’t remind me of my failures, I have not forgotten them.”
” Yes, I received your letter yesterday, (about the time the door knob broke), when you asked how I was doing, was that some kind of joke? All these people that you mention yes I know them, they’re quite lame, I had to rearrange their faces and give them all another name. Right now I can’t read too good, don’t send me no more letters no, not unless you mail them, from Desolation Row.”
” Mama bought a chicken thought it was a duck, put it on the table with its legs sticking up.”
” I met a gin soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis, she tried to take me upstairs for a ride, she had to heave me right across her shoulder, ’cause I just can’t seem to drink you off my mind. “
” We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine.”
” Living on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean, now you wear your skin like iron, your breath as hard as kerosene. You weren’t your mama’s only boy, but her favourite one it seems, she began to cry when you said goodbye, and sank into your dreams.”
” The pump don’t work ’cause the vandals took the handle”
” I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the heart of the matter, but my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter; but I’m thinking about forgiveness, forgiveness, even if you don’t love me anymore.”
” The man on the corner wants 11 dollar bills and you only got ten”
” Babs and Clean Willie were in love they said, so in love the preacher’s face turned red; soon everybody knew the thing was dead. He shouts, she bites, they wrangle through the night. She go crazy, got to make a getaway, Papa say…..Oh – no hesitation, no tears and no hearts breakin’, no remorse, oh – congratulations, this is your Haitian Divorce.”
” All we hear is radio ga ga, radio goo goo, radio ga ga.”
” I know that’s hard to believe, but there are people you meet; they’re into something that is too big to be expressed, through their clothes, and they’ll put up with all the poses you throw, and you won’t even know. That they’re not sizing you up, they know your mom f***ed you up, or maybe let you watch too much TV. But they’ll still look in your eyes to find the human inside, you know there’s always something in there to see. “
” The road goes on forever, and the party never ends.”
7 June, 2008 at 3:16 pm #139666Satan gave me a taco
And it made me really sick
The chicken was all raw
And the grease was mighty thick
The rice was all rancid
And the beans were so hard
I was getting kinda dizzy
Eatin all the lard
There was aphids on the lettuce
And I ate every one
And after I was done
The salsa melted off my tongue
Pieces of tortilla
Got stuck in my throat
And the stains on my clothes
Burned a hole through my coat
My stomach was atremblin
And I broke out in a rash
I was so dry and thirsty
And I didnt have no cash
So I went and found a hose
Tore off all my clothes
Turned on the water
And it shot right up my nose
Some old lady came along
And she thought I was a freak
So she beat me with her handbag
til I could hardly speak
I was lying there naked
My body badly bruised
In a pool of my own blood
Unconscious and confused
Well the cops came and got me
And threw me in their van
And I woke up on the ceiling
And I couldnt find my hand
They took me to the judge
His eyes aglowin red
The courtroom was filled
With witches and the dead
Well the sheriff was a hell-hound
With fangs and claws
The prisoners were tied up
And chained to the walls
The air was getting thick
The smoke was getting thicker
The judge read the verdict
Said cut off his head!
Well they placed me on the altar
And they raised up the axe
My head was about to explode
When I noticed the marshall stacks
I noticed all the smoke machines
Cameras and the lights
Some guy with a microphone
Runnin around dancin in tights
And I noticed the crew
And the band playin down below
And I realized I was in a rock video
So I went and joined the band
And I went out on tour
And I smoked a lot of heroin
And I passed out in manure
I made out with the groupies (aw yeah)
Started fires backstage (aw yeah, start em up)
Made a lot of money (aw yeah, Im makin it)
And I gave it all away (give it all to me)
Well the band got killed (aw, bunch of losers)
So I started a solo career (aw haw, yeah
And I won all the awards (get em all now)
And I drank all the beer (drink it all up; get funky)
And I opened up the taco stand (aw haw, etc.)
Just to smell the smell
Cookin with the devil

I’m goin’ down to the Greyhound Station, gonna get a ticket to ride
Gonna find that lady with two or three kids and sit down by her side
Ride ’til the sun comes up and down around me ’bout two or three times
Smokin’ cigarettes in the last seat
Tryin’ to hide my sorrow from the people I meetAnd get along with it all
Go down where the people say “y’all”
Sing a song with a friend
Change the shape that I’m in,
And get back in the game,
And start playin’ againI’d like to stay but I might have to go to start over again
Might go back down to Texas, might go to somewhere that I’ve never been
And get up in the mornin’ and go out at night
And I won’t have to go home
Get used to bein’ alone
Change the words to this song
Start singin’ againI’m tired of runnin’ ’round lookin’ for answers to questions that I already know
I could build me a castle of memories just to have somewhere to go
Count the days and the nights that it takes to get back in the saddle again
Feed the pigeons some clay
Turn the night into day
Start talkin’ again, when I know what to sayI’m goin’ down to the Greyhound Station, gonna get a ticket to ride

When I know what to say9 June, 2008 at 6:21 pm #139668the beatles
Day after day,
Alone on a hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he’s just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round.Well on the way,
Head in a cloud,
The man of a 1000 voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
And he never seems to notice,But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round. And nobody seems to like him,
They can tell what he wants to do,
And he never shows his feelings,But the fool on the hill,
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round.Ooh, ooh,
Round and round and round. And he never listens to them,
He knows that they’re the fools
They don’t like him,The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round.Ooh,
Round and round and round10 June, 2008 at 4:56 pm #139669Spring-heeled Jim winks an eye
he’ll “do,” he’ll never be “done to”
he takes on whoever flew through
“WELL, IT’S THE NORMAL THING TO DO”
Spring-heeled Jim lives to love
now kissing with his mouth full
and his eyes on some other fool
so many women
his head should be spinning
AH, BUT NO!
Spring-heeled Jim slurs the words:
“there’s no need to be so KNOWING
take life at five times your
average speed, like I do”
until Jim feels the chill
“oh, where did all the time go?”
once always in for the kill
now it’s too cold
and he feels too

10 June, 2008 at 5:27 pm #139670Black Cat (Gentle Giant)
There’s a cat prowling through the streets at night
And she’s black and her eyes are burning yellow
fierce and bright
The lights are darkened;
Senses sharpened;
Wide awakeAs she acts out her past of Jungle days
When the night was her friend in many other
different ways
It gave protection
Of detection
By her preyWith a sway and swing she walks away
And the look in her eye it never ever seems
to say
The way she’s feeling
No revealing,

Alphaville / Forever YoungLet’s dance in style,
Let’s dance for a while
Heaven can wait,
We’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best
But expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not????
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power
But we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit,
Life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won??
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders,
We’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the madmenForever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever — and everSome are like water
Some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young?
It’s so hard to get old without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
Youth’s like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn’t happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We’ll let them come trueForever young…
