First of all you need to kidnap a suspect and fly them to a foreign land,

Yes the US has definately got it totally wrong. These guys are absolutely committed to their cause. They were even mostly captured on battlefields fighting against the forces of US imperialism ffs, you can’t get more committed than that.
No they should be allowed to go free – all of them – and paid substantial compensation into the bargain.
Better still, for those that still want to commit suicide, the US imperialists should give them a large quantity of explosives in a jacket rigged with a detonator and free transport to the city centre of their choice. Let these brave and committed warriors make their statement for all the world to see, let them blow themselves up in heavily conjested public places. That will show Bush & Blair that these guys mean business.
