It’s not his fault Jen…when your in denial about your sexuality it must be really difficult to see others problems  Gaz one day will be at peace with himself….hopefully it will be when Syeed in S’Tenders is at peace with himself too

Surely a man has the right to keep whatever god or gods he chooses. Who are you to tell them what they should feel? What right do you have to hand down your religious dogma?
Good on the lad for sticking to his principles in the face of death, I say. What a very brave young man.
I didn’t tell them anything and i’m not remotely religious. What’s up, nappy rash being a bitch again.
What a very DEAD young man, what a very brainwashed young man and what a waste of a young life.22 May, 2010 at 6:19 pm #440830Has anyone seen a film called Life for Ruth? it is quite an old film and deals with this subject in a very sensitive way.

23 May, 2010 at 7:49 am #440832As I understand it, the issues are with the purifing processes donated blood goes through before being available for use in transfusion.
Also the person would be be excluded from the faith if they accept blood transfusion.
Think it was in 2000 it was decreed that a witness would no longer excluded from the faith. There is a device called the cell saver that processes the patients own blood at the bedside. I think I’m right in saying JW will accept this BUT the cell saver is used more in planned surgery requires specially trained staff to operate it so is not alot of good in an emergency situation.
There are many complicated issues that might seem bizarre to non JW people but their beliefs have to be respected however foolish we might think they are.

23 May, 2010 at 8:24 am #440834I don’t think they do have to be respected Sara,h I think they have to be questioned, mainly by the faith itself it this is the outcome.

Well yes Pete, but I was purely commenting on the transfusion issue as was presented. :)

God forbids eating meat without first draining the blood. Many JWs have needlessly died because the governing body considers blood transfusions to be “eating blood.”
Clearly a transfusion is NOT eating and this has cost this young boy’s life
That’s you giving your own view of scripture, that is.

They should feel their God gave man a brain, and man discovered blood transfusions to save life, which is supposed to be sacrosanct i thought

What? Could he have done more work for ze Fatherland? He was a human being who decided to keep his faith until the very end. Who are you to say he’s not up in heaven right now with a Hemingway Daiquirí being serenaded by angels for his beautiful life? Why are you always so keen to be telling everyone what they can and can’t do with their own bodies?
