but no scientist nowadays thinks that leads to closure.
May I ask what makes you feel qualified to speak for every scientist on the planet?
That’s just cheap rhetoric, though not as much as some o the other one-line sounbites you use.
Confront an argument with an argument. That’s grown-up debate.
The philosophy of science is about finding methodologies and approaches whihc incorporate the diverse fields of scientific enquiry.
Dawkins is so arrogant that he ignores falsifiabilty in his discussion of evolution.
But modern scientists who takes their methodology seriously start off from doubt and falsifiability. It’s essential to the development of scientific advance.
I can give references but this isn’t an academic board. All scientists differ in their approaches; Popper is no longer the king of the field, and there are many interesting developments. Roy Bhaskar’s realist theory of science strikes me as the most fruitful.
There are several good books on the relationship between science and religion whihc are introductions to the topic. The Cambridge Companion is the most accessible; Hans Kung and Alister McGrath are the best Christian and academic approaches to modern scientific developments in the light of religion.
To assume that science is a replacement for religion is to demonstrate a real ignorance iof developments in thinking on the topic.

30 November, 2017 at 5:14 pm #1080955I think religion is nice, it helps people and families, dying people from thinking of an eternity of nothingness is looming to have hope that when they die something happens, it gives peace. Let’s be realistic for one minute, I believe everything in the bible was man-made, it’s one of the biggest scams in life, in a way though it made humanity flourish, without that fear none of us would be here today, that is a fact. It has done a good job of keeping people in line, you are good you go to heaven, you are bad you go to hell. Who is to say there is no higher being controlling things, of course the whole Adam & Eve thing is bollocks, but let’s not forget we know very little. For all we know there are another hundred billion Universes out their, that is way beyond our thought process, we do not even know much about our own Universe. I hope something else exists out their, I would like to think that when I die that is not the end of life as we know it, so I believe…
You seem to know that there’s an eternity of nothingness.
I’ve never been dead so I have genuinely no idea.
I would be genuinely interested in what makes you so certain, as I’ve known a number of people who have died now and if somebody knows what their life is like (or not like) I’d be very interested to know.
They haven’t told me, as yet.
When the American rustic. Henry David Thoreau, died, he was asked during his last moments whether he was prepared for the world to come. His answer, his last words, were ‘one world at a time’.
But, Mr Strongbow, if you know for sure then do please tell us with your reasons.
30 November, 2017 at 9:45 pm #1080963I think its lovely that people have faith and believe it gives them strength etc.
Even the most sensible, stable minded and otherwise logical of people put store in it.
People have fought wars and committed suicide often in the name of religion.
Many bad things have been done by the fanatics.
I must admit I hate it when they stand in the street with boards up trying to recruit you. if Jehovah Witness knock I am very rude to them as I think its a damned cheek of them to knock on my door to convert me.
Next time they knock I will say NO PENIS TODAY THANK YOU, IN FACT SHOVE YOUR PENIS WHERE THE SUN DOESNT SHINE
1 December, 2017 at 1:20 am #1080998The beautiful thing is, we do not know what happens when we die, nobody does. I would rather choose that when we do die, our life as we know it is over, but a new one continues on. I was laying in bed one morning, I was visited by the holy ghost, a complete strength I have never experienced, I was pinned, the spirit told me, things are going to get really horrible, be strong, have faith, and trust me… A week later my gran who I was very close to died, and then my gf died, it was so obvious I was getting a message to stay strong as my life was about to be turned upside down, I thank the holy spirit for the guidance and heads up brought to me…
Amen
1 December, 2017 at 1:27 am #1081000When I say I was pinned, there was a light, I was unable to talk or move, an overwhelming power surge over my body, it said no words, it never had to, the power had all the words…
1 December, 2017 at 1:31 am #1081002The actual power was beautiful, the Lord spoke and he told me things were going to be very hard, unlike anything you have ever experienced, trust me…
