Linda, that’s right, but they considered themselves Christians in saying this.
Many Christians were white supremacists and in the 18th and 19th centuries looked to the Bible to justify slavery.

Your right forgot important term word “Christians.” They portrayed many as..being..many not too! Reported later. No belief in a god,but for the ride…..
I remember seeing the harm on t.v. even those that did not support Klan, were scared. Life’s threatened…..battles of white vs black. Not easy time for many in the south….
Ty for reply.

14 December, 2017 at 2:26 am #1082484All religions are dependant on one thing – believers. A religious without belief isn`t a religion – its a stopwatch.
And believers need something , faith.
Now don’t waste time on a religion that has no time for you, then your in a philosophical reaction to what started religion, what is religion or was it a bad watch?
If religion had an icon it would be represented by the stars or things that were around before penis was a word and ahead of time.
Time is the religion of every person including dinosaurs.
14 December, 2017 at 8:26 am #1082487The dinosaurs had a religion of time. Well, blow me over to Dover. Our whole view of dinosaurs has been transformed.
Otherwise, religion most certainly depends on a belief. Without believers in a faith it will die.
That’s why (imho) Jesus appointed peter as the rock against which all the waves of hell would beat in vain. Peter, not the Beloved Disciple. John understood what Jesus was about (he was the only one in the Bible to name and point to the nature of God), but Peter was human, with all the strengths and failings of most human beings.. He was a blusterer and a braggart, pleading to be there for Jesus until death, and then renouncing him three times and scurrying off to a dark corner to weep bitterly.
But Peter’s Church, which has been beset by human failings and responsible for so much suffering, has stood the test of time, keeping the faith alive. The fact that Peter wept bitterly over his failings, and then apparently insisted on being crucified upside down for his failings, seems to be the key. The height of bizarre masochism to people who don’t hold to the faith, but proof that religion needs believers.
14 December, 2017 at 8:47 am #1082490if god doesnt exist when i die i’ve lost nothing by believing as i’m dead and theirs no after life however if i don’t believe and god does exist thats not a conversation i’d like to have with a deity of why i thought i was so important god owed me a sign he existed

14 December, 2017 at 11:02 am #1082493Why is that?
Is that because God should be feared and we be in trouble for questioning his existence? or because you are not important enough to question his existence?
So that goes back to whether or not we just just believe in God without question for fear of recompence.
Does anyone actually really believe in God or are people just scared of getting ‘into trouble’ when they die for not believing if he does exist after all?
14 December, 2017 at 12:13 pm #1082506I’m afraid a lot of people are frightened.
By no means all!
If God is going to send me to hell for refusing to bow and scrape before him, then to Hell will i go!
Paige’s argument is a variant on Nemesis, who says that she loses nothing if there is no God and no afterlife when she dies. A version of Pascal’s Wager.
I don’t see this as adequate.
If God is such a monster, then I’m for the high jump, but that’s how it is.

14 December, 2017 at 1:31 pm #1082512If there is indeed a God, id like to imagine he will see into my heart and love accept and respect me for using the brain he gave me to question things.
If there is a God, i would like to believe he will forgive me for my mistakes in life and welcome me with open arms.
But on lack of evidence provided to me since i have been alive on this planet, i see no reason to believe he does exist.
There is nothing to fear but fear itself and if God is love he would not want anyone to be scared for using the brains and free will that he ‘apparently’ gave us.

14 December, 2017 at 2:31 pm #1082524That flu bug is hard to shift, Norfolk. I’ve still got a cough in my chest whihc seems to be lasting forever. Fortunately, most of my energy has returned.
get well soon and I look forward to reading your replies.
I don’t like the way you write to mizzy, but you can be very funny – sometimes.
*thinks – did he catch the bug from me over the bandwaves?
