- Place a ham hock in your biggest pan, cover with cold water and slowly bring to the boil. Once it’s come to the boil, take it off the heat and pour away some of the water; this will get rid of some of the saltiness from the ham.
- Wash about 300g yellow split peas thoroughly in cold water then leave overnight (in fresh water).
- Next morning, bring the ham stock back up to boil, add a small diced onion and one clove of garlic, then all the yellow split peas. Turn down the heat, cover with a lid and simmer away for about one hour.
- Using a hand blender, blitz to a rich pulp, add a few knobs of butter, mix all together then place into covered ovenware dishes and bake in the oven for approximately 30 mins.
- Take out of the oven, fluff mixture through with a fork, then let it set. When cool, transfer into small dishes.

Grease a oven proof bowl add in stuffing mix and cook for 25 minutes31 May, 2017 at 10:53 am #1047877Homemade battered sausages. Aldi frozen sausages, 16 for £1.49..
The batter mix is
110g of self raising flour 5p
190ml of soda water or sparking water 6p
Half a teaspoon of salt
Whisk into a batter
Cook sausages first
Drop in batter then fry for about 2 mins
I then dropped in batter again and fried again
Mainly because I had too much batter. This amount double battered 4 but would do 6 easily
Roughly costs 10p per battered sausage
Way cheaper than a chippy31 May, 2017 at 11:57 am #1047888If I buy butchers sausages will it ruin the ALDIness?
I just gurned 2 fags and ruined the budget ( potential 8 bangers there)
Do you re-use your teabags? I thought I was on a chatroom not Martin Lewis`s forum
BTW – ALDI have a penny sale on shhhhhhhh dont tell any1
I must be bored, my local fish&chip shop does a SAUSAGE BATTERED FOR £1.50 with about 10/11 chips thrown in and newspaper ( could be used to penny pinch the free salt&vinegar)
Have you ever considered a food bank previous poster??

Don’t you have to let the pudding rest for nine days?!
