Oliver Stone’s WORLD TRADE CENTER arrives at cinemas in September..

Many people have questioned the wisdom of these two features, in relation to their heavy subject matter and the timing of their release.
Concerns about it all being Too Soon for the world of cinema to address the atrocities and tragedies of 9/11 are gathering speed.

Is it too soon? Or is there an onus on Art and Artists alike to penetrate where media overload and the desensitization of modern journalism cannot? As Hamlet speaks of The Players… “Let them be well used, for they are the abstracts and brief chronicles of the time.”

Judging from the brief trailers above… both films seem to be pieced together respectfully and delicately. Both seem to be attempting to show stories of personal courage and care.
Critics will shout Exploitation. Advocates Enlightenment.

Recent films that have engaged diverse Realities such as THE WOODSMAN, HOTEL RWANDA and MUNICH have been treated with equally polar attention. The recent Moors Murderers TV program is a perfect example of the emotive issue of Reality to Art as such.

In these relative times, does it depend on the specific work itself? Or are there true Absolutes here? Rights and Wrongs?

If these films provide thought provoking perspectives on the events they portray,
    they should be welcomed.

Too many blinkered people around methinks.
