Not sure whether to go for it or not, I’ve heard mixed reviews…18 February, 2012 at 6:23 pm #460449@jen_jen wrote:

Not sure whether to go for it or not, I’ve heard mixed reviews…Hi Jen .. Well I loved it! It’s quite a fast paced story of a man and his approach to life . His Work and his family and about time and how he chooses to spend it and ultimately the regrets.. it sort of adds to the mystery. I won’t spoil the ending for those who would like to read it or are in process of reading it , but if anyone has read P.S I love you well this is a typical Ahern novel. It has that same kind of draw that carries you along as you try to fathom out what is going on … You start to guess what will happen and yes its a bit OTT but its a story not real life so its allowed to be kinda unbelievable. I did have few tears in the final pages as it’s quite soul searching towards the end ! I guess you either will love it or hate it ! My only criticism would be the Turkey Boy character .. I think it could have worked with just the two Garda discussing what had happened with each other rather than the story being told to the boy !
Happy reading. :D
19 February, 2012 at 7:30 pm #460450Most of the books I read these days are only available on the Kindle so I don’t mention them here. However just finished reading “Breaking the Silence” by Diane Chamberlain. Laura makes a promise to her dying father to visit an elderly woman that she’d never heard of before, little realising the chain of events that she’ll trigger by keeping her promise. Likeable characters (on the whole) with enough twists to keep you guessing. I’ve read 2 of her books so far and like those, it’s a bit slow initially but builds nicely, painting a very rounded picture. There are several coincidences that might not always ring true but if you can accept those then it’s a good read and very enlightening about some of the psychiatric “research” practices in 1950s America. A bit of a schmaltzy ending though, but somehow it seemed to fit.
20 February, 2012 at 7:32 am #460451I just read World Without End by Ken Follett… its a massive read with 1237 pages. I loved it… its set in 1327 and follows the lives of four children takes you through prosperity famine plague and war… I couldn’t put it down….. but as I have said before I love historical reads.
Just started Sarah Waters … The Night Watch… having difficulty getting into it … will let you know what I thought….. if I make it to the end :D
