Read the original post. If she had gone against regulations, she would’ve probably been sacked or at the least suspended. So not only are you expecting her to lose her job, her career for disobeying orders, you also expect that she should risk her life. Its not in the job description im afraid. The regulations are in place for a very good reason. They have rights to safety as anyone does at work. What about her life, and her family? Dont be fooled into thinking this sort of situation is a one off. They face violence frequently, as do fire fighters. Maybe its time they were trained in self defence and properly equipped with the same weapons the police carry.

At the end of the day its all about cost cutting. The plan is to replace a large number ambulances where staff work in pairs with rapid response cars where paramedics work alone. Their terms of employment state that when they are faced with a violent incident, they have to wait for back up, ie in this situation, she had to wait for an ambulance to be called out. Given the rise in violent incidents it seems mindless to even contemplate a move towards rapid response when on occasions like this, their presence is useless. If an ambulance had been sent in the first place, the boy may have been saved. But thats not her fault.

I do the coms and fit them to the bikes of paramedics . When one has to have a leg fit il have a chat ask him /her what they have to do .And if they are aloud to go it alone or wait or just f00k the rules and saves lives like they are trained to

Il be back as soon as iv asked a few next week

No it’s not her fault but will she believe that in the weeks to come

This i think has alot to do with the circumstances, if you live/work in an area where the possibility of being jumped on yourself or it is too dark or unclear to see if there is obviously people around the guidelines are probably there for their safety and as someone else said why should she put herself in that position, she is there to help save lives not walk into a lion den, im sure the danger money they get paid doesnt equate to that anyway.
That said i think most paramedics would do what they could in most given situations and in alot of areas it probably wouldnt even enter their consciousness to think that way, sadly in other areas i believe that is the case.
A simple example i was in London once when my son was in hospital it was dark abt 11pm and i decided to go for a walk to go and find somewhere to maybe buy a magazine or something walking towards an underpass type place and a guy walking out of there stopped me and said “don’t go through there alone will you” i looked at him and said why not he said it isnt safe alone at night, i said ok ty and he went, now im not a wuss but i changed my mind and went back to the hospital, and since then people have agreed with what he said, so if thats the danger i cud face what danger wud a paramedic with a car full of drugs face in an area that is like that?
I wouldnt question walking around a city in this part of the country at night, so as i said circumstances/ area i think would make the difference on the decision.

Pat- I can’t believe you’re bro in law would walk into the middle of a fight (like John Wayne) to treat a patient- his green uniform and the words “paramedic” on his back arent some sort of shield which protects him- drunks are drunks n don’t care who they kick the sh/it out of

Did this woman have to walk into the middle of a fight ?
