A night out with friends, a little too much to drink, a male friend offers kindly to make sure she gets home. The door closes and the brutal assault begins. She is drunk, so perhaps he is hoping she won’t remember. She wakes up the following day, and knows something happened. How do you begin to believe that someone that is supposed to be your friend took advantage.
So many times it is very easy to let our guard down as women, especially when we are with trusted friends. We can protect ourselves to a point. But when a man is hellbent on raping a woman, he will do so. Regardless of her age. I’ve seen and read the stories about elderly ladies being raped after answering their door on a normal day.
So does the elderly lady get more money because she was at home and simply answered the door? Or does the woman who believed she was being taken care of by someone that was a friend, who then saw his opportunity receive less because at the time she had been drinking? Rape happens on a daily basis, by brutal husbands behind closed doors, to prostitutes, to women going out and having a good time. It is in our world, our communities. No woman deserves to ever go through something so vile, and no woman should ever ever be made to feel that she is to blame.
