It’s wrong to assume that ppl who get raped are drunk or provocatively dressed and who flirt and tease.

Plenty of ppl who get raped are stone cold sober and dressed for winter.

And what about ppl who get raped in their own homes?

Even old women in their 70s and 80s aren’t safe in their own homes from rapists.

The poster sorta reminds me of the phrase “asking for it.”

happened to someone close to me on a cold hogmanay night. They were dressed for the winter in a heavy coat and boots. She left her pals as she was keen to get home and see me , a guy who lived local spotted her and offered to chum her till they got a taxi..a park intervened.

she walked barefoot and coatless the 4 mile home..with knees near hanging off after being dragged over an ash/gravel football pitch. hair matted in the struggle. she was 15 years old.

damm that public park (on way home) giving him ideas. the wee tart.

    I agree.
As I said, there is never any way to justify a rape.

I was giving my opinion on a certing type of girl.
The girl that delibritly goes out with next to nothing on and delibritly teases and flirts with a guy all night.
Its this type of girl that who is putting her life in danger.

As I said before, knowing its morlay and legaly wrong is not going to save her.
Just because the law will protect her doesnt mean that she is not going to “pick” the rapist.

Let me put this to you.

If a girl carrys a condome in her bag, is she being sencibal?
hell yea she is. She is protecting her self.
There are girls out there who do nothing to protect themselvs.

Look in no way am I saying you can label a rape victom as “she asked for it”.

All I am saying is girls need to be a lot more aware of there behavour and not put them selvs in this vulnerable possition.
Im giving my opinion on a certing “group” of girls.

Has anyone noticed none of the men have commented? Would be interesting to get a male point of view here… dont you think?

You mention the girl that deliberately goes out with next to nothing on.

What about when on the beach or at a swimming pool and the girl in question is wearing a bikini or swimming costume?

She is deliberately wearing next to nothing, clothing akin to a bra and knickers in public – so using your arguement, it could be said she is also putting her life in danger to enjoy herself, like the girl who goes to the pub or club wearing next to nothing.

Should she not wear the bikini or swimming costume?

Is she also a “certain type of girl?,” deliberately making herself vulnerable?

If so, there are lots of these “certain types” about!

I just saw some on the tv competing in the Olympics.

I understand what Jenn means…. Im always amazed if I drive through Leeds late at night it might be freezing cold but some girls are in bikini tops and short skirts… like jen jen said in an earlier post we take personal responsibility in other areas… against burglars muggers pick pockets etc…. it makes sense to take responsibility and not to dress so provocatively….

Sure….it should not be necessary but bad things happen… we all know that.

So you’re saying rape is only associated with environments that contain alcohol? That’s not true.

As for dressing “appropriately,” that’s not strictly true, esp on holiday.

The truth is, you don’t know what would be rapist has picked their victim out @ the swimming pool or on the beach or the pub or the club.

If rapists followed a set criteria then we could avoid it!

The truth is, they can strike anywhere, anytime and most rapes are carried out by ppl you know.

Myths and facts about rape and sexual assault

Myth: Most rapes are committed by strangers.
Fact: Most rapes are carried out by somebody you know and trust.

Myth: Rape happens because of the way are you dressed.
Fact: Rape has nothing to do with what you wear. Nobody has the right to have sex with you without your consent.

Myth: People who are drunk are partly to blame for being raped.
Fact: The only person to blame is the person who raped you. Being drunk doesn’t give anyone the right to hurt you.

Myth: Rape doesn’t happen to boys.
Fact: This is not true – boys can also be raped. Rape is sex without consent regardless of whether you are male or female.

Myth: If your boyfriend / husband forces you to have sex, it is not real rape.
Fact: If you have been forced to have sex by anyone, it is rape.

Myth: When it comes to sex, some people say ‘no’; but they really mean ‘yes’.
Fact: No means no but sometimes people may be too frightened to say anything. This doesn’t mean they are consenting to sex.
