Well you have described it yourself as a mildly racist joke Poli even though the joke teller has said it was not meant to be. So your perception of the joke is it is racist. I’m not sure where mildly comes into it. I described my experiences yesterday here and not one person has the guts to ask who the regular chatter is, because although name and shame is quite a common thing in the chat room even when things are said in private, regs are ususally egged on to name and shame because the abuser is usually a name changer or a not so well known chatter. So is it the case that situations like this and I don’t just mean racist, are not so important because comments were made by a well loved regular chatter who poeple know?

My point being Kent its as racist as telling a paddy joke, or an englishman irishman scotsmen joke which are banded abt willy nilly and rarely get given the air time, and the reason i dont ask who said what is because i dont believe in naming and shaming personally i cant even abide pc pasting from perves i disagree with it and unless there is a real threat to someone life or health i think these things are better off being treated with the contempt they deserve, they are the poorer person for being abusive whether it be racial or otherwise, its the same with the old “they bought my kids into it complaint” they dont know your kids they are idiots why even let it bother you lifes too short, they are behind a keyboard and are cowards, says more abt them than you. But vindictive posts and naming and shaming is nothing more than revengeful and bitter, if someone genuinely was upset by something you tell the people that can help not post threads, its likened to a teenager writing on a toilet wall %%%% is a sl@g cos they nicked their boyfriend, childish and silly. Or as in your case kent removed yourself from the chatroom and the firing line which says more about you than as a person than many others, that said i dont think it should come to that either, you shouldnt be put in that position but you chose to emove yourself in a dignified manner rather than the other option.

16 April, 2010 at 10:51 am #437797As alot of you know i have a son with “special needs” years ago he may have been called a retard or spaz or many other things often none relating to the actual problem the person has, but changing the terminology doesnt change intent, someone says to me is your son retarded, not normal all the un pc speak has no effect on me whatsoever it is the way it is said that matters, if someone is being abusive meaning to cause harm or be offensive then i have a problem with it, you can get people look at you with contempt at times and go “oh he is special needs” as if he is shyte on their feet that i take more offence to, than someone saying “he’s weird or strange” or “is he retarded”in a genuinely unsure unknowledgable way. And to laugh at someone with a disibility is no worse than laughing at someone without a disibility, we should all be able to laugh at ourselves and our differences,So its not the words its the intention behind them, like making a joke to someone with big ears for example saying something like “great handlebars” that would be laughed at and ignored if you said the same thing to someone with a disibility you’d be hauled up for it because they are “disabled” same applies to race, if you mock a white person for something its fine u mock a coloured person for the same thing, often, not always, its cos u are racist. There were many jokes said in chat abt different famous people for example jennifer aniston brad pitt and whoever else it was that was adopting kids but cos they were white it was funny had that been a coloured person you would be racist. Thats my point and the more people bring these things to the forefront infact all they do is highlight their differences more, we are all human whatever race colour able or disabled big willy small willys big ears small ears big nose small nose etc etc but underneath it all we all feel and can be hurt so forget the words and look at the intent and most importantly be prepared to laugh at yourself no one is perfect why worry about it.
