If it is true that it was because of gambling debts then ( and this is of course only my own opinion) it is also selfish. His wife has not only been left to face the fallout of those debts she was also left to find him hanging. Further , he has 2 children who may always feel that they were not as important to their dad as he was to them. Just before Christmas too.

Sorry Jen, i think we will have to disagree on this. To me, it is the ultimate selfish act. Before anyone says i dont know what im talking about, possibly not, but i do speak through personal experience of the fall out.
28 November, 2011 at 7:03 pm #483773My Son in Laws best friend found his mum hanged..he was aged 11 at the time and it was just before Christmas. He is in his 30s now but he still dreads Christmas every year… I often think how could she do that?… he was an only child so she knew it would have been him to find her.
As Jen says though….people who do that are obviously not thinking normally.

I’ve seen both sides. Only someone who has been there, or spoken to someone who has been there, can begin to understand the temporary insanity. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to comprehend otherwise.
My thoughts go to everyone affected.
28 November, 2011 at 10:05 pm #483776for once i agree with you eve,yep totally selfish of gary, his lads ed and tom ,are very talented footballers in their own right, they must be gutted why dad why?
29 November, 2011 at 8:51 am #483777I understand why some think it was a selfish act…of course I do…anyone commiting suicide leave people behind to pick up the pieces ontop of dealing with grief…questions as to wether as a wife or child or parent they could have seen any signs or helped that little bit more on reflection…
But I can’t help thinking how someone must be so desparate and feel alone and think there is no other way out and no one to turn to or understand their prediciment that they have to end it all….many leave children and spouses behind…what must be their state of mind to lose all senes of logic to feel their kids would be better off without them?
I can only feel sympathy -
