Is anyone offended by golliwogs? As far as I’m concerned, Golly is just a doll who happens to be black. I fondly remember Golly on robinson jam jars. No one cared then. I guess its the ‘wog’ that upsets some people. So…..any black people who post here…does Golly offend you?
12 December, 2016 at 2:47 pm #1011497The good old ignorant days when you could be racist and not even know you were being racist because looking down on certain people for not being supremacist white and stereotyping them was acceptable. We don’t like slavery anymore not because we are trying to be Politically Correct. Slavery and the view that white people could physically and sexually abuse black people and laugh at them for how they looked and how stupid they were- helped create the image of the Gollywog. It appears that change and enlightenment can take a very long time in some cases. To those saying “bring it back” and bring back hanging, crucifixions, and drowning ‘witches’. Also whilst you’re at it, get those lazy 5 year old kids back to working an 80 hour week like they did in Charles Dickens days. Oooo…those were the good old days.
Offended? too right im offended!!!

Didn’t know you were black, Sophia?
You put a pic up of a blonde woman
12 December, 2016 at 3:18 pm #1011501I liked Sophia’s post.
wog means ‘Wily Oriental Gentleman’, and was always racist.
My age means I cannot see Golliwog as racist, I’m afraid. Does this mean I am a ‘Wily Old Gentleman’? lol
Now that’s giving free rein to some of the sociopaths on here
12 December, 2016 at 3:20 pm #1011502I don’t find them offensive, but I also don’t understand why they are sold still. Who is buying them?
Offended? too right im offended!!!
But why do they offend you as an idividual specifically? You didn’t actually state a reason, other than that slavery affected people, and that may or may not be related to golliwogs somehow.

Bloss … where exactly does it say Soph is black & even if she is so what ? As for your comment about the pic she put up … well I’ll treat it withe the contempt it deserves as we all know people NEVER put fakey pics on here do they !
Anyway I think it was Kenty that put a similar thread up back along. Personally I don’t find Golly’s offensive. It was just a doll when I was a kid that happened to be black. Still is.
Like the story of Little Black Sambo … thats been banned to on the grounds it’s racist. It was a lovely story about an African boy.
Baa Baa black sheep. Now rainbow sheep … when was the last time anyone saw a rainbow sheep stood in a field?
Kids don’t know racisim we as adults teach them.
I have no problem with the toys but I do have a problem with people being exploited on the grounds of their colour religion etc.

Tinsel was asking if there were any black people who post here..and whether they were offended, so I presumed Sophia was black as she replied.
