I’m beginning to believe the government is tuning in to my brainwaves.
Many of the things I’ve advocated for many years are being adopted by
government.Here’s the latest.
11 June, 2006 at 12:41 am #225271The police alone can’t police! The public must aid the police by making certain types of behaviour unacceptable.

See my previous post.
Public attitude has cut the number of drink drivers, not law enforcement.
Scottish football fans abroad are allowed to mingle freely, unlike English fans.
Because they police themselves! :wink:11 June, 2006 at 9:11 am #225273@owen‘s article wrote:
Mr Davis said the Home Secretary was trying the “tired strategy of recycled gimmicks and initiatives as an attempt to distract attention”.
He said: “What he needs to do is to put less effort into this bluster and more effort into focusing on the reasons that his government is failing to catch criminals to convict them, to lock them up and to keep them locked up.
“Until they get the basics right he would do better not lecture the public.”
It kind of says it all really doesn’t it?

I would also like to see legislation to ban the wearing of items of clothing (e.g.T-shirts) with offensive wording on them in a public place. We should be moving away from the celebration of badness and nastiness as cool.
11 June, 2006 at 11:10 pm #225275I do think all this ‘make the public’ responsible stuff is yet another one of Uncle Tony’s failed initiatives – failed before they have started that is.
The Police constantly preach the message ”Do NOT take the law into your own hands. Let us deal with criminality.” So is this month’s Home Secretary advocating that the public ‘have a go’?????

If there are laws about indecent exposure it’s perfectly reasonable to make laws about offensive slogans on clothes too!!

If anyone can be offended by a slogan on a T shirt – then I think they are in the wrong country altogether
Apart from that – who would control it – the Police ???? it’s totally unworkableI used to get embarrassed when my daughter wore some of her FCUK T shirts at her grans (my mothers) – but I’m sure she just did it to wind us both up
But to make laws about it – your gonna get on very sticky ground – I personally find Newcastle United T shirts and strips offensive !!!
12 June, 2006 at 11:14 pm #225279Oh dear oh dear – it looks as though this new initiative has failed even before it’s been launched.
Today ”Dr” John Reid is denying that he even mentioned this initiative at a Cabinet meeting last week, much less did a presentation on it.
Another failed initiative from a failed Government led by a failed musician.
I wonder how the New Labour apologists will manage to spin their way out of this one??? (Another one for you to Google Owen????)
