I know most of us with younger children probably have explained to our internet using juniors about Paedophiles and talking to strangers through network sites such as Facebook.
My youngest is 14 and has facebook, and yes I know he shouldn’t but loads of kids do nowadays. My oldest son who is 27 this year keeps tabs on juniors account, checks all his new friends and even has his brothers messages alerted to his phone so he can see what he is upto. By the way is not because we don’t trust junior he is a very sensible child, it was just the compromise his brother gave him if he wanted facebook. Harsh though it sounds.
Today Junior got a message from someone he didn’t know, a female name.
Straight away my eldest showed me the message from his phone and my jaw dropped and I said oh my god thats a paedophile. Then eldest said, mum don’t worry read the reply…
Junior replied “go fk urself on cam you paedo I’m reporting you right now”
Those were his exact words.
Now while it scared the shyte out of me I was extremely proud Junior realised this. How scary is it we never think it will happen to our kids. The message needs to be constantly drummed into them. Keep reminding them.
Needless to say my eldest has reported the name, and also sent a text to junior saying “high 5 bro…realy proud, but mums gonna kill you for swearing” :lol:Scary it can happen to anyone

30 July, 2010 at 10:41 pm #444285Doesn’t Facebook have settings to stop complete strangers from accessing your details?
31 July, 2010 at 7:07 am #444286Facebook is banned in my house. I’ve blocked access to ALL social networking sites. I don’t even have msn. I know there are people who use these places and say that they are fine, well maybe so, but all I ever seem to read about FB is bad. It seems to be more trouble than it’s worth.
I’m glad your son is sensible with it Kenty and realised the danger. Good on him for reporting the pervert, and for swearing at him.

I was on FB once but found it boring and pointless.
31 July, 2010 at 10:09 am #444288I completly agree panda. It’s the same as this *twitter* crap. I think the idea is to *tweet*, is that right? Every second of every day you can tell everyone whose bored enough to want to read it, what you are doing/thinking etc. *yawn*.

Yes Panda it does…and that’s what my eldest couldn’t understand.
I don’t use facebook either, infact I probably wouldn’t know how to use it even if I wanted to, that’s why my eldest keeps track on the youngest.31 July, 2010 at 1:38 pm #444290@kent f OBE wrote:
