But they’re the ones who make it worse..

They bring solicitors into it, adding more costs..
Obviously if someone is finding it hard paying a debt, then obviously they’re not going to be able to pay double/triple the fee.
If they’ve sold on the debt to an agency, then they sell that debt on, for less than the original sum owed!

Welcome to the capitalist system :?

So the answer is what, those that can afford to pay have to pay and those that can’t are let off scot free ? The law is the law, rightly or wrongly and is there to be followed. Now it might turn out that your side is mitigating enough for the £80 fine to be rescinded, but i’d say they’re just carrying out procedure at the moment.

All well and good but, at what cost to the good old tax payer ???????

    Is that your answer ?

I repeat again, to instigate proceedings throught the courts in relation to this matter does NOT serve in the public interest, what it does do is increase the vast profits of law firms lining up to carry out this work. Had i been given the opprtunity to explain the situation before the solicitors became involved then clearly, the money now being wasted to persue this would have been saved.

Would it though. First they have to decide you have mitigating circumstances. Now good luck to ya i hope they do but it could be that they decide you have to pay.

Well thanks for that, if it happens that i am indeed found to be in breach of the procedures and then fined with costs, i will be in no better a situation to pay than i was prior to this scenario. I could potentially then lose my car and even my liberty as a result. We are all aware of the cost to hold prisoners and the cost of those employed to carry out proceedings. Not to mention the criminal record that will un doubtedly be a great dis-advantage seeking employment thus, an even further burden on the system being virtuall guarenteed… A high price to pay all round in terms of true justice

    How melodramatic.

If this gets to court and they find against you, you will be fined. Given your circumstances, an arrangement on paying the fine in instalments will be made based on what you say you can afford. I’d respectfully suggest you go to court with figures re your income and outgoings to prove what you can afford. Unless you habitually run up fines and costs and wilfully refuse to pay them, then you are extremely unlikely to go to prison for such a minor offence, even then that is a last resort.

I think the smallest amount they would be willing to accept is £5 per week.
