Personally I think you should return to work – and try and resume as if nothing had happened .
This will force your bosses – or whoever is behind the strategy’s hand

As far as friends at work go – most aren’t real friends – if they think their job might be at risk by supporting you – very few will do so

Cath, Im sure your made of stronger stuff, as Drivel said, go back to work, in the frame of mind your are the Manager. I would advise you that to keep notes of what is happening around you and what is being said. Do your job that your where contracted to do… and let your union sort things out. I would say is don’t go discussing things to other work associates even if you do think they are friends… keep your talkin between yourself, your union and your lawyer…

best of luck, and try not let to get to you, if you know you havent done anything wrong, why let it bother you, hard thing I know, but just try…. see how things pan out…MJ

Agree with Drivel here. Although it may be very very difficult, try to go back to work and put on a brave face. From your version of events, they have clearly breached rules as there has been a lack of consultation but also lack of procedures being followed, i.e. if it is the case that people can’t work with you, where’s the evidence and where is the opportunity to improve etc etc.

However, being on the sick is hurting you more than it is hurting them. Your confidence may start to suffer and if you are off long term it will make it more and more difficult to return, plus you’ll have far too much time on you hands to think about things and things will seem far worse than what they really are.

It’ll be hard, but grit your teeth and get back to work as soon as you can. Life at work is never easy, but these situations are sent to try us. Try also getting back to work before your sick allowance runs out too, then it doesn’t look like you’ve just returned because the money has run out  .

    Good luck.

Nothing wrong with having to return to work because the money has run out. We all have to live and it’s the main reason we work. However, I agree with the others that you should try and return even though it must be difficult as you have told us your state of mind. Sitting at home only makes your mind play tricks and think up all the worst scenarios. If you go back you may find the new position is acceptable to you and as I saw you just reached your 56th birthday, then working in government you will be entitled to a pension at 60 (am I making the wrong assumption here?) so it may be to your benefit to stick it out. It is a shame that none of your colleagues have offered any support. Make sure you don’t cut off your nose to spite your face and make the best decision for yourself.

    p.s.
You don’t work for JP do you? If so, you could sell any kiss and tell stories you may have come across during your time there. If you don’t work for JP then I hear he is having difficulty getting someone to work with him, so send him your cv. However it may only be a short-term appointment.

    Good Luck xxx
