Police officers in England and Wales have voted by a big majority to lobby the government for the right to strike.
Of those who voted, 93% wanted independent Police Arbitration Tribunal decisions to be made binding.
And in the absence of binding arbitration, 86% said the Police Federation should lobby for officers to be allowed “full industrial rights”.
The vote followed a dispute over a 2.5% pay rise to be awarded in stages, which reduced the overall increase to 1.9%.
Do you think that it should be their right to withdraw service?
Is it in the best interests of the public?
Do you think that no ‘ Emergency service’ personnel should be allowed to withdraw service?As long as their grievance is reasonable they should have same rights as everyone else though i’m assuming they signed to a no strike rule when they joined the service

lets face it you never ever see a copper unless hes got a ticket pad in his hand. if you get mugged,burgled,stabbed or raped you cant find a copper for a week at least. oh what joy..As far as i know there was never a agreement for a no strike deal because the Police service has no union. the goverment just passed the law that they can not strike with out any consultation.
I think the state of this country everyone should just pack there jobs in and sit on our ar5es wathcing trisha and see how far the goverment gets with no one paying any tax until they sort this country out.if you dont like it

As I recall, way back in the 70’s, the Police ‘gave up’ the right to strike in return for independently negotiated payment deals.
This arrangement has continued more or less satisfactorily ever since ….. until that is, this bloody Government arbitrarily decided not to implement this year’s (or was it last year’s) pay deal in full.
Today, the current moron (Home Secretary) offered to implement the deal in full IF the Police signed up to a ‘long term agreement as to their future pay settlements. surprise surprise …. there were few if any takers.
BTW: If Police want to totally screw up the system, all they have to do is a) refuse to work overtime and b) refuse to do ‘extra’ duties …. like policing demonstrations etc etc.
Tell a government minister that “Sorry sir, you can’t have your usual police motorcycle outriders today – the chaps are all ‘off sick’ etc” and watch them suddenly find the money.
They would prob get Polish Plods :lol: :lol:
