Endlessly
I sit here waiting, with arms clasped around myself,
As small as I can be… waiting patiently.
Like seagulls circling endlessly in the dismal sky above, I wait for the pain
That will surely come.
No point in fighting back, but better to accept it, like falling from a ‘plane,
And hope it will be over, soon.
My heart echoes with those seagulls’ cries as the waves come crashing in,
And tears fall like sea spray on the fine unblemished sand.
Amidst all this hate and anger, I still find time to notice
How beautiful are the shells shed by creatures of the deep.
How quietly they lie there unmoved by all they see.
I wish that could be me.
Don’t give up your day job.
Now what exactly prompts that proclamation Mr Amphibian? Hmmm dear heart?

Amphibian has a point… I don’t think poets are rich…. bless him though!
22 May, 2006 at 9:29 pm #125757Thanks for the critique Amphibian.
I suppose I don’t analyase what I write, I just write it. So to see it dissected is a bit unnerving. This was written about a specific moment in time.. one that meant something purely to me.
I have never had any expectation of what other people might think of my scribbles, but if some like them, that is wonderful, if others don’t, that is equally valid. I don’t post them on the boards for any kind of validation. I suppose if I was being precious about it, I might find a web site where real poets post their work, but I was never one to “join” in that sense.
And all in all, I think 5/10 is pretty bloody good :D :D :D
Thanks Amphibian. xxxx

For a start off, they are both men
22 May, 2006 at 9:41 pm #125759Sorry, just realised the above post looked really flippant.
I don’t consider myself a poet even, so i wouldn’t expect to be mentioned in the same decade as Keats or Milton, let alone the same breath.
22 May, 2006 at 9:49 pm #125760Did he? Damn, I always miss the good bits.

Well, I’m in two minds now whether to go for the arty-farty, late-night-tv tweedy chin rubby reply …….. or just reiterate that I liked it.

Not at all. Some people (no names) may have to look it up in the dictionary though.
*Rifles through her dictionary with the tip of her tongue poking out between her teeth, frowning in concentration…. hmmmmm *
But seriously (ish), I am not sure if I would dare learn the craft of writing poetry, I would be worried that I would spend so much time trying to get it right, that I wouldn’t be able to write anything anymore.
10 June, 2006 at 10:01 pm #125764my torment has gone and more remarkable
is the fact that i seem unscathed
this machine of bones and flesh
still stands, the demons cast off
for another year or sosuffering has gone, much as a lodger
comes to stay awhile, then leaves
cleaning the room in my mind for
the clarity that comes with the shedding
of the spectres withinit is strange but this monumentous time
passes unnoticed by all but myself
there is no dialogue, no musical score
no popping of the champagne corks
i celebrate the passing in silence. -
