I love the street artists like Edgar Müller but the work is temporary and will never hang on a wall or be seen in a gallery or a museum…does this mean it isn’t considered art?

What about Banksy and people of that ilk? Is that art or grafitti? Who decides, the people who want to buy it or the council who want to clean the brickwork of a building?

I think Art is Art. All definitions have limitations. Commerciality is subject to fashion and hype, personal is subject to individual affection etc.

With painting or drawing, the medium, whether canvas, paper or brick will have differing longevity partly down to the material itself and partly to the conditions it’s under – a number of Banksys and other street art have been covered in perspex to protect them from the elements.

Whether the art is preserved or not will depend on who controls the work. Who knows how many masterpieces have been painted over, thrown into fires, or festered in poor storage?

An unmade bed, half built brick wall, a laid down pen IS not art in my opinion, its just nonsense. My idea of good art is fine paintings of animals, or/ and landscapes like Constable, but i also like some of the slightly less mad surrealism art, a particular favourite of mine is an original album cover, movie posters, book covers artist, He paints surrealist fantasy.
Jim Warren, check out his site and look through, some of his paintings are simply amazing and stunning.

A few examples of his work hope you enjoy :)

So i can’t interest you in purchasing Pen interior?

It would be personally signed acs or my artistic name if you desire, Alphonse Clement Suisson

My bedroom is currently a gallery.

There’s a work entitled, “Pants Clean” which hangs next to “Pants Dirty.”

“Socks Smelly” and “Socks Odd” are on the opposite side of the room.

The centre piece is “Bed Made”

Exciting stuff. Can’t wait to open to the public. :P

So many artists I like too many to mention…

I liked the surrealist paintings you posted …

P.s For those interested it is well worth going to visit the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition. The tickets are not expensive but a great event.

I went to see David Hockney’s iPad Art yesterday… I spoke to one of his young proteges who convinced me that computers are just another medium for art… and if some of the greats like Picasso and Monet were alive today they would snap up an iPad :D

It can save on a lot of paper or canvas and means you can get rid of mistakes or first drafts. Plus you can get Apple to sponsor you if you get in there first . . . . . .

Personally, I think it takes the skill out of art, undermines talent and generally dumbs it down.

Can’t beat canvas and oil paints. The skill is coming direct from the artist. No computer generated auto correct.

Same can be said for photography. Photoshop et al has dumbed it down. Now any old “enthusiast” can pass themselves off as a pro using the various enhancement and edit tools.
