My idea of putting a pen on a wooden floor and calling it Pen interior, which depicted a mans struggle against his own conscience unfortunately didnt make it on to the short list for the turner prize this year. But is this really art?
Im surprised by how many houses i visit which have paintings on the wall which look like they,ve been created by an infant school. But who are we to decide what is art and what isnt.
Is an unmade bed art?
1 July, 2012 at 4:15 pm #501468Art to me is Constable, Da Vinci, the Old Masters etc, something where pure talent and genuis shines through.
An unmade bed, well I can do that quite well! So can most ppl.
I’m afraid the stuff that is called art these days is a sad reflection of our society.
Real talent is not appreciated anymore – anyone can create a nonsense and call it art. It’s so shallow. Damien Hirst does it quite well. His stuff is just tasteless b*llocks IMHO.
1 July, 2012 at 7:07 pm #501469I like David Hockney… some of his stuff might look a bit childlike but I like it. Im lucky to have a David Shepherd too…. not a wildlife one (which I love) … its a train in a South African diamond mine…. he painted it for a limited edition calendar… all proceeds went to the anti apartheid movement….We have the original its in my husbands office.

And your idea of art in music would be the “pure talent and genius” of Beethoven, Mozart and Bach.

This is my favourite painting……..Marriage of Arnolfini by Jan Van Eyck. It’s in the National Portrait Gallery.
It was in the NPG until I nicked it on my way home from work the other day. :D

Personally, art, is for me, in the eye of the beholder – can be the first paining from one of my kids or the Sisteen Chapel :D
