probably a faulty fan, or a dead rat

It’s definitely a dead rat. They creep into PC’s at dead of night looking for cheese, bite on something that electrocutes them, and then fall to the bottonm of the case to slowly rot away.

The noise you can hear is its tail rubbing on the processor fan blades or the cooling fan blades.

Either way, take the side off the case and remove the rat – all will then return to normal.

err… thanks, your advice is always appreciated!!

Of course it could always be a dead parrot Sharon …. the feathers may be what is causing the noise ???

It might not be dead, just sleeping

Ive checked the birds and they are alive and well, telling me to shut the fuck up and singing jingle bells.

Mine makes that revving sound but so long as it doesn’t take off or blow up I’m not especially fussed

Go into your bios and check what temp your processor is running at.Sounds like you have a lot of fluff in your heat sink and if you use memory gobbling programes this will cause the fan to work harder to keep it cool.
