Every couple of minutes the tower sounds like it is going to take off, and Im actually quite scared that it is going to take off so am sitting rather awkwardly with my feet and legs as far away as I can. No problems with using it, but a rather worrying noise.

Any ideas what it could be?

probably a faulty fan, or a dead rat

Is it easy to clean the fans yourself? I know how to open it, but have never cleaned it myself.

It’s definitely a dead rat. They creep into PC’s at dead of night looking for cheese, bite on something that electrocutes them, and then fall to the bottonm of the case to slowly rot away.

The noise you can hear is its tail rubbing on the processor fan blades or the cooling fan blades.

Either way, take the side off the case and remove the rat – all will then return to normal.
