I’ve personally viewed Pats contributions to these boards for a number of months now, and would just like to offer up one or two comments about the state of Pats meagre existence, and how we all, as a “chat community”, can perhaps come together to help the woman looking for hope, and a meaning for her dreary life.
Pats is undoubtedly a complex individual. Her reluctance to enter into conversations about the emotional, intimate aspects of her past, seem to mark her out as someone who through their teens and early adult life, witnessed disappointments, heartaches, fears and obstacles, which may have broken people from easier backgrounds. Yet Pats, as most of us already know, did her best to develop writing and reading skills, whilst also finding a way of curbing the anger that her upbringing has so obviously left her with. She’s channeled that anger by perhaps going on the odd night out, getting into the odd fight, and abusing the odd local. But what she hasn’t done is let that pain and anguish creep across her own doorstep. For this she must be commended. Anyone being invited into her home now would perhaps see discarded beer cans, cider bottles and barking stray dogs, yet it’s a home, a haven that Pats has created out of the turmoil of her world. She’s undoubtedly achieved a lot already.
In order to mark Pats accomplishments, I’m proposing a poetry reading night in her local (so long as she hasn’t been banned again!) with members of JustChat reading poems about overcoming adversity, obviously without any long words so Pats can enjoy them too, followed by throwing a couple of pound in a bucket so that the lady herself can buy a £5 leccy card or Cider or something. I’m suggesting that the night itself should be organised for Halloween, just so none of us lose sight of the pain and terror that’s made Pats the person she is, the person we all love and respect.
