Im sure you must have a solicitor acting for you butterfly? They will be able to get confirmation for you.

And I would have thought they would have already sought out some precedents of previous cases and the awards……rather than just giving you big famous names as a comparison.

The plot does seem to thicken…. or thin out depending on how you look it!

If PS was offered a settlement it whould prob have conditions attached to it that the sum would not be disclosed so what he got if anything is anybody’s guess. But how I understood it at the time when he was injured PS got a payment partly for his injury but mostly because the prison service was negligent in insuring his safety, but I could be wrong it was a long time ago and i have got sh1t for brains most of the time :?

Sorry Butterfly Angel if came across as ‘suspicious’!

I work in mental health and came across this story on the West London site yesterday. I didn’t know anything about the case, so googled ‘Peter Sutcliffe compensation’ and came across this thread. I don’t often post on message boards , but thought I’d let you know that the story was false as I thought if you used it as an example, it would hinder your case.

Btw, there’s a few references here to Broadmoor as a prison or part of the prison service. It’s not, it’s a high secure NHS hospital which treats people detained under the Mental Health Act. So the prison service would not be involved.

Newspeak is right. AFter a night of googling this subject this thread is number 8 down the page on the first place of Google.

The difference in this case sadly is that a department was in charge of PS and his safety at the time. As much as it is hard to take, its the louts that did the damage that are 100% to blame in this chaps case, and you have’nt a hope in hell of a private county court case for damages as they wont have a penny.

Oh and back to the point PB made earlier about “Sun readers” the broadsheets all covered this story too.

The big problem with ‘Nick Horobin’s’ case – as I see it – is that it is founded on something that simply isn’t true – whatever the tabloid newspapers have printed.

This is a quote from his appeal website. (The link was helpfully posted by his fiance at the beginning of this thread).

“My Campaign was Started by my Fiancee after we both saw a story in the Sun newspaper on Boxing Day 2007 about Peter Sutcliffe the Yorkshire ripper.

He had been stabbed in the eye by a fellow inmate and had lost the sight in that eye, he had also recieved some facial scarring, for this he was awarded £196,000 in compensation, it is this injustice that we are campaigning against.”

They have been offered compensation already – made up of a number of the usual elements – but have seen fit to reject it on the grounds that a)it wasn’t enough and b) Peter Sutcliffe got more.

Well now we all know that he got nothing at all … and in this respect they are both in the same position – i.e. neither person has received any compensation whatsoever.

Nick Horobin (and his fiance) would do really well to re-consider their grounds for rejecting this offer of settlement.

PB always gives sound advice on something serious ….one would do well to listen to what he is saying.

This is Butterfly’s fiance, i feel its about time i had my say, and tell you sanctimonious idiots the facts. The point of this whole campaign is not solely about money

The campaign is not based solely on the sun story, if you actually bothered to check all the information you can find on this case you would find that, the yorkshire evening post covered this story and several other papers did too, the mp responsible for the area the ripper haunted at the time, also had concerns about the case, there is also one other factor common to all the articles, im not going to point it out, get off your sanctimonious fat arses and do some proper research instead of just picking out the points that back up your story and ignoring the rest.

I attempted to speak to rory hegarty today in the interests of balance, and i got unavailable for comment, i asked his aide the question, “will you be issuing writs for libel, broadmoor is one of the most high profile secure hospitals in the country, your credibility is being called into question, surely you wish to defend it, as it is totally false”, the answer, “im sorry im going to end this call now, the questions are too confusing”.

The reason we rejected the offers is, I am 36 years old, i have a family, I worked bloody hard to carve out a career, that was taken away by some mindless idiot, none of the qualifications i gained in the ambulance service can be used anymore as they are too old, i have to do access courses before i can get on to a nursing diploma course, once on the nursing diploma course i need to give up work, how many of you out there would leave paid employment to go back to college, when you have amortgage and a family to support, the reason i want more money is, the NHS, vise ve the government, dumped me on my ass once it was clear i couldnt continue as an ambulance paramedic, i am now left with no prospects and no chance of getting employment that pays above minimum wage, i dont deserve to be here when i didnt ask for it

I fail to see what I have done to be being labled as a sanctimonous idiot.

I shall stand down my contact who has been looking into this for me, and tell them not to bother.

    Your loss.

Perhaps you aught to do a little more than newspaper research?

And maybe show a bit of gratitude when it is due?

    Manners cost nothing.
