Myself and anybody else on here, if we werent famous but wanted to adopt legally from a foreign country, we would have to jump through hoops not only in the other country, but here too. The adoption process is lengthy and im afraid Madonna’s colourful past (you go girl, love her to bits lol!) would have resulted in any adoption application being crossed through with a big red marker pen.
It dont personally bother me as Im lucky (or unlucky lol) to have been able to have two healthy children, but it must smart a bit with childless couples desparate to offer a loving home, but battling with the various agencies, who actually always seem to be against you!
Money talks…..
17 October, 2006 at 11:19 pm #244950Forgive me if i have this wrong Sharon – but the lovely Madonna isn’t exactly childless is she. I believe that she has two of her own already. She and her ever loving, loyal faithful husband are NOT a childless couple are they? Not for them the battles with numerous agencies eh? Just get your personal assistant and her team to organise the whole thing for you whilst you go off and make a few more millions showing yer tits around and jigging about on a crucifix.
I totally agree with Esmeralda’s point (and I’m probably even more cynical than Emma, having had more years to hone my cynicism), but this entire exercise seems on the face of it to be an exercise in obtaining publicity. Apparently Madam has already had a multi page spread prepared for ‘Hello’ magazine; she travels to Africa with an entourage of photographers, personal assistants, bodyguards, and Christ knows what others.
The world’s paparazzi not only beseige her in Africa – somehow they must have just guessed that she would be there – but also are several deep outside her UK home snapping away at the latest ‘scoop’.
This stuff is not the actions of a caring mother that simply wants to hold her adopted child close and nurture him, this is the action of a cold calculating pubilcity seeking ************ (insert the appropriate noun). I am disgusted at the whole charade.

What a freak-circus the whole Malawi trip has proven to be..with Mrs. G. Ritchie believing her wealth entitles her to flout the laws of the country..the laws that would be applied to anyone else. And yes..as Bad Manners points out..the baby WAS chosen from a line-up like a commodity. Further..the baby is not even an orphan..he still has a father and a grandmother..who desperately love him. Were Madonna’s concerns truly for the child..it would be a simple matter to provide his remaining family with the wherewithall to raise him in comfort and in his own environment..
The first wealthy self-publicist to adopt a baby dying of aids..in need of love and comfort in its dying days..or an older child..abandoned to a lonely death in a Romanian orphanage [Eastern European children are just sooooo not in fashion this year]….then I’ll be impressed. Oh and btw..we have plenty of orphanages here in Britain..with an assortment of children in a variety of colours..but..I guess that’s just not exotic or eye-catching enough for the ‘material girl.’
Well said Esme =D> =D> =D> =D>It doesn’t happen often, but on this particular occasion I agree with what PB has said too.
18 October, 2006 at 1:32 pm #244952Raise your hands if before this event you knew the plight of the people in Malawi. Her fame and adoption of a young boy has people talking and has brought attention to the sadness of the orphanages in Africa. In Malawi, there is no waiting list to adopt a child because at least a million children there need homes. So, all these childless people who want a baby and don’t want to jump thru hoops can and should do what Madonna has done. It’s easy for people to shake their head and stand in judgment of her, but at least she can give this child a chance in life. This baby will literally survive because of her – That should stand for something.
18 October, 2006 at 1:42 pm #244953Wake up people, its just a “PR” stunt, one of many over the years, I bet in a few months she will just return the kid back to his famliy. After all didn’t the church call her OLD and boring a few months ago? She had to try somthing new mmmmmm…………… what will she do next?
18 October, 2006 at 2:57 pm #244954I also agree with DOA here (faints !!!). I reckon that once she has obtained maximum publicity for herself, the designer fashion accessory (a black baby) will go back to its orphanage and obscurity.
I wonder what the excuse will be – anything that avoids the wholesome role model to young children everywhere taking any responsibility at all.
18 October, 2006 at 3:27 pm #244955I totally disagree with the anti-Madonna section
So what if its a stunt – the child will have riches and a life beyond belief
There is no way this kid will be returned to an orphanage or whateverIf he was then I shall change my opinion of the matter
As it stands – well done to her – and good luck too
18 October, 2006 at 3:43 pm #244956So all that remains is to guess how long it will take Madonna to reach her boredom threshold with her new fashion accessory.
18 October, 2006 at 3:47 pm #244957Madonna is sensationalist, controversial, she enjoys being it too.
Like someone here said, can’t remember who, she’d have been less hassled I suspect and more admired, had she thrown some of her millions at the orphanage to help ALL of the children have a better life there. But she chose one, wonder how that made the rest of those poor unfortunates feel
