The Malawian baby boy that Madonna is hoping to adopt arrived in London this morning (17.10.06).
After leaving Malawi on a private jet bound for South Africa yesterday (16.10.06), 13-month-old David Banda was flown overnight from Johannesburg, landing in London’s Heathrow Airport at 6.30am today (17.10.06).
Madonna’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, confirmed the singer and her husband, director Guy Ritchie, had been granted an interim adoption order for David yesterday (16.10.06), saying: “It is expected that the family will be reunited within the next few days.
“The interim adoption grants David’s new parents temporary custody for 18 months, during which time they will be evaluated by the courts of Malawi per the tribal customs of the country.”
A Lilongwe Airport immigration official said David was issued with a US visa and left Malawi with two Britons and two Americans.
Human rights groups claim Malawi authorities may have relaxed the adoption laws in return for the ‘Hung Up’ singer donating £3 million to the Raising Malawi charitty.
Boniface Mandere, a spokesman for Malawian children’s charity Eye Of The Child, said: “The court seems to have made a decision based on Madonna’s wealth.
“But being a good parent is not about money”
Malawi law states prospective adoptive parents must live in the country for a year while social welfare officers assess their suitability. The law usually prohibits adoptions by non-residents.
David’s mother, Marita, died a month after he was born. His father, Yohane Banda, took David to the Home of Hope Orphan Care Centre, in Mchinji, when he became sick at five weeks old. He had already lost his first two children to malaria.
Yohane said: “He is so lucky, he will learn many things. I wonder if he will ever come back and see us.”

Why is a father giving up his child to a billionaire, money? I heard earlier that he recieved £10,000, this is utter madness surely?
The kid is going to be touted around like a celebrity, completely alienable to his immediate roots, natural background and family.
SURELY, it would’ve been better to give the whole family 10k to help them all live a better life and watch from a far?
Well it would to average everyday individuals like us, but to a billionaire material girl, image is more important than the lives of others.
How much is your soul worth

Well, my soul is not for sale FYI. However, at least this little guy will have a chance in life and at life. Disease and death are rampant in Africa and the boy’s father GAVE him to the orphanage. Should we also discriminate against Madonna for having money? This child will get education, health care and every need met. It’s a shame that this child’s mother died. But, I know that if I were in the situation, I would want my child to be given every opportunity, which Madonna will be able to provide. Madonna didn’t just go this man’s house and say she wanted to buy his baby. She went to an orphanage and fell in love with a child who needed help. I don’t agree with Madonna on a hell of a lot of things, but I do think that her heart is in the right place.17 October, 2006 at 1:57 pm #244931Why tell the world what your doing? What good does that do the child?
17 October, 2006 at 2:11 pm #244932she’s done a pretty good job so far of keeping her own son and daughter out of the eye of the media. fair play to her!.

Thats an interesting thought.
Here we have a multi rich celebrity, who’s kept her two children from the evil clutches of the free press, and then takes a camera crewe to a foreign land where its PC to “adopt” the rights to look after someone elses baby, the baby is then flashed by photographers and hurried into backs of cars and wisked away in a mad hurry.
Ive never seen one tinsy winsy snippet of madona’s two children, but less than a week after enquiring about this baby, i see it online.
I feel the baby is being used.
17 October, 2006 at 2:39 pm #244934I say good luck to her and the kid too
If she wants to donate money to orphanages over there to help her adopt – then surely its good for everyone concerned
I wish she would bloody adopt me17 October, 2006 at 2:55 pm #244935Good luck to her – at least one child has been resued from a life of pevery.
It’s all very well saying just give the family the money…but how do you choose which family? And how do you stop there?
I have heard fom various sources that Madonna already donates to various charities, and she is bringing an important subject to light.

she went out there to help raise awareness of the plight of the orphans….not just to pick a child. thats why there was a press following. the adoption has only just come to light…….for all anyone knows she may have been planning to adopt for a long time. if you want to slag of celebrities who are adopting kids willy nilly……i’d compare madonna with angelina jolie and brad pitt…..or sharon stone..she has just adopted a 3rd boy and is single!. if your gonna adopt at least pick kids from the same country and religion……and yes i know baby davie is black…………i’m talking about the ones like the 2 aforementioned who mix n match.
17 October, 2006 at 3:55 pm #244937Does it matter who adopts aslong as the baby is looked after and given the best possible?
Just because Madonna is famous doent mean she shouldnt be allowed to adopt. I do think its sort of become a celebrity craze but SO they are the perfect people to adopt as they have everthing kids need. Madonna is known for not allowing her kids to be in the spotlight and have resposability, i saw a programme and it said that Lourdes has her own credit card with a £10,000 limit! These kids being adopted are having a far better life than if they were left in the orphanage. Fair play to her i say.17 October, 2006 at 4:58 pm #244938Well there is the awful thought that this apparently adopted baby is some sort of fashion accessory. If so, I wonder what will happen when the fashion changes. Will she fly it back to the orphanage in her private jet???
